Dirrell exposed

Post by whiskey »

Those critics of Dirrell who think he is not injured at all, are going to love the next Fight Camp episode.

"It's not a guarantee that we face Ward next." claimed Leon Lawson jr, almost uncannily during the opening minutes of the latest fight camp 360 episode.

"This is a business.

"we're 'Prize' fighters... not 'Pride' fighters.

"If they wanna dance then get that MONEY right." concluded Lawson.

Well in addition to what i said above, Showtime air footage of Team Dirrell in their 'Dirrell Brothers Gym' opening day and they declare casually that they might not be fighting Andre Ward next "if they dont get the money right" which is a incorrect because all the fight purses are paid for by Showtime.

Dirrell is jovial, smiling and looks perfectly healthy. Remember, this footage is from a few weeks BEFORE he withdrew.

Andre says "Me and the Ward fight IS the tournament. It's the main fight everyone wants to see and they need to get the negotiation right before we both step in the ring." That's when Lawson Jr declares that Andre is a Prize fighter..not a Pride fighter, we gotta get paid.

Then at the end of the show the Showtime team go to Dirrell's house and interview him in the aftermath of his withdrawal. They ask Dirrell when did it start, then they casually ask who the doctor was that ordered his withdrawal - and his trainer Lawson Senior then pipes up "I want our lawyers present here if your going to ask those questions!!" and Andre stutters and can't answer the question, saying "err it was the err family doctor... Dr... Dr..." and one of the others chimes in with a surname for the Dr.

Showtime then tell the room, that this is Andre's opportunity to tell everyone why he has had to withdraw and why is asking such casual questions upsetting everyone? - the Showtime team them outright ask Andre "Are you scared?".

He just looks sheepishly at the floor and then Lawson Jr (his cousin) chimes in yet again, stating that "I LOVE to make money... I LOVE to make money... and if it was another fighter then i would personally push them into a fight. But not Andre because... he's family."

When you see it, you will agree how downright fishy it all is. And I think Showtime gave them a big length of rope to hang themselves with, which they did do.

Can't wait to watch the latest Fight Camp 360, looks the best episode yet with the Froch-AA preview as well.

Looks like this episode will put the final nail in the coffin for what boxing fans think of Dirrell, initially everyone didn't believe these 'neurological' issues, then a few articles were released stating it could be the end of Dirrells career etc. but if the team are talking about money, unable to name the doctor who advised Dirrell etc. than there certainly is something dodgy going on.

Expect a miraculous recovery in the coming months, lets hope he doesnt get any big fights, hes let the boxing world down big time.

Well, I'm waiting to see if a comeback is made and when before making judgements - always likely to happen though given the format. Someone's ego was always going to get inflated in the format. I always said pre-negotiating deals without looking considering results during the series - had AA fairly flattened Dirrell, then I am sure it might have been harder to get him in the ring with Froch. I'm sure he would saying he is worth more than originally offered.

I still cannot help but think if that was the real reason for Taylor's withdrawal. Showtime realised they couldn't really sell a fight between a guy with 0-2 with 2 KO defeats against the new #1 in the division.

If these accusations that there is no problem with Dirrell are true, then it is very very low what he is doing, but in reality its what Hopkins / Wright / Haye and many many many other fighters have done directly after high profile wins, re-adjusting his value. His advisors are not going about it the right way though, if the injury is not legit - should have been more honest. I geniunally think a man who took on the 2nd favourite in his back yard and then the new favourite is successive fights has the balls to fight Ward.

Some good points. None of the fighters could complain about the purses though, all purses were pre-arranged and I'm sure they are all getting very good paydays. If you take a look at Dirrells comp. before this tournament his purses must have been a fraction of what he his getting now. I honestly believe it is simple as Dirrell believing he would be going out of the tournament if he faced Ward. His 'advisiors' have most likely been chirpin in his ear. "They playin you champ! You a star! You should be getting 5 million a fight champ!". Will wait for the episode for tonight but it all doesn't sound good. I don't doubt Dirrells balls, just his mentality.

Taylors withdrawal was legit to me, Lou DiBella usually seems an honest bloke and I believe he would have cut ties with Taylor had he continued. He didn't want to see his fighter hurt, as most boxing fans didn't, and that was a real possibility with Taylor.

Froch-Abraham will make up for all the Super Six failures, theres still some good fights to come out of this tournament. Its not dead yet IMO. :TU:

The problem is Al Haymon - he has whored Dirrell around for other fights.

It's no coincidence that he is also best friends with Ward's promoter Dan Goosen and also represent's goosen's other fighters like Paul Williams and Chris Arreola etc.

It's been orchestrated that Dirrell will exit and fight a lesser risk for more money. This suits Team Ward as Dirrell would prove a tough opponent for Ward. Throw in the friendship and that is pretty much that.

Say what you like about the guy, but he did exhibit some great stuff against AA. Can't deny the man has serious talent. If only he had the mentality to match it.

I would hope no one would ever lie about a brain injury as an excuse but surely in boxing it means you stop competing immediately ?

Heres Dirrells bit on yesterdays Fight Camp 360.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7a-O2iH ... r_embedded

Hasn't done himself any favours here, and by the looks of it Showtime don't believe Dirrells reasons as its dealt with in a pretty cynical way throughout the episode.

Shouldn't he have to provide some kind of proof from the doctor before pulling out? I recall in Britain Paul David's team submitted evidence from a doctor to the BBB of C following David's pull out of a British title eliminator. Never been a fan of Dirrell or his team since the super six started. Talented guy for sure but mentally lacks something.

Dirrell-Ward fight of the tournament? Puuuuurlease! Froch-Kessler has been the highlight so far and Froch-Abraham has got to be the fight of the tournament - can't wait for that fight!

Edit: I'm no expert but when the trainer/cousin/whatever said "The doctor said he has to be out for three months at least" , it sounded like BS IMO. With a neurological injury surely the team would be able to cite the specific injury. And with most neurological injuries, a quick google indicates some sort of treatment and rehabilitation would be required. Also, it appears insomnia isn't one of the many symptoms associated with such injuries...but again I'm no expert.

If they were so concerned and the doctors diagnosis was legitimate, surely he should have had a brain scan too?

I said the same thing in another thread - with the money Showtime are set to lose due to his withdrawal from the tournement, surely they will ask Dirrell to be examined by their own neurologist or, at the very least, provide some proof of his problem.

I'm sorry if he really does have a "neurological injury", but I don't believe it right now, and haven't since it was announced. It was very clear he was acting in the Abraham fight, imo, and his comments ever since the Froch fight have drawn the image of a spoilt little boy.

Many neurological issues can recover, depending naturally on the nature and severity.

I'm not suggesting this is happening, but if you were incharge of a fighter who was having headaches/blackouts on a regular basis would you say fight? Perhaps, this is the issue. I'm remember Steve Collins was medically cleared to make a comeback and then retired after getting flatterned by Howard Eastman (he says he blacked out prior to Eastman nailing him) and then suffering headaches prompting him to retire. I don't think anything physical was seen, but it must have been a concern.

Perhaps this is the scenerio - Brain scan might not show anything, they also have a future career to consider. It won't do his reputation any good if Gary Shaw was saying "look, Andre is getting flattened regularly in training, suffering blackouts". So that might be the reason for the vague symptoms and the vague responses. Perhaps the Doctor has not found anything concrete to explain the symptoms and thats why there is no good having a DR certificate.

They could have used any excuse really.... broken hand whatever.

Its all speculation..... Asterix, I'll agree to disagree re the Abraham fight. The guy didn't know where he was.

When i watched the Abraham late punch back on tape...

It's the softest, grazing thing you ever saw... he even holds the wrong side of his head !

It barely brushed his cheek and he looked up and then uttered a few words like "oi, cheeky bastard" for Abraham being a bit naughty.

What happened after, was absolutely incredible. Fitting in the ring, foaming at the mouth, completely lost his mind not knowing if he had won or lost.

Total and utter bollocks I thought.

He does seem to have got over his Calzaghe obsession since Joe and Carl shook hands, though.AA does not know what he is in for if he smokes Froch's boots!
