Hey Alba, trainers normally don't allow us to film sparring - which is fair enough. However, Adam Booth did let us film Groves and Anderson - if the fight is signed by Thursday I'll see if we can show some clips of it on Ringside. It would make you want to see the fight....

A cracking match on the David Haye-Audley Harrison bill on November 13 in Manchester pairs off George Groves and Kenny Anderson for the Commonwealth super-middleweight title.
Londoner Groves holds the belt which he won with an impressive six-round stoppage of Ghanaian veteran Charles Adamu earlier this year in Manchester, since when he has stopped Mexico's Alfredo Contreras in the States, also in six. Unbeaten in 10 contests (eight early), Groves is hungry and heavy handed but the same applies to Anderson, a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist from Edinburgh who has won 12 out of 12 as a pro (eight early). This is classic 50-50, classic Anglo-Scotland, and to add spice to the dish, the two have sparred quite recently, a spar described by ex-pro and Sky Sports man Ed Robinson as "nip and tuck" - "terrific".
Anderson, 27, holds the edge in power, while Groves, 22, mixes it up and throws plenty of shots. He holds the edge in speed. However, Groves can be caught and was shaken by the willing Contreras. "Kenny Anderson will derail Groves, no question", says Blackpool fighter Jeff Thomas. "This fight will bring out the best in Kenny Anderson..." Nevertheless, the dour Scot struggled to outscore durable Welshman Nathan King last year over 10 rounds, and Boxrec writer Ben Carey was not overly impressed by Anderson's two fights since. "...I make Groves a very clear favourite," says Carey.
In fairness, Anderson has been unlucky with injuries and cancellations, leading to spells out. He got in a warm-up with a five-round stoppage of Carl Wild in September and, trained by Kevin Maree, stands an obvious puncher's chance, but we shouldn't forget that Groves is a puncher himself and holds most of the cards, including the ace of 'house fighter' if it goes to a decision after 12 bruising rounds, the ace of preparation. George had completed his training for a scheduled 12-rounder with James Obede Toney over the weekend when it was cancelled, and just needs to tick over now, while Anderson was in training for a 10-rounder with Liverpool's Tony Quigley in late November and needs to speed things up.
I can still see this going the full 12 rounds. Pride, grit and ability take men a long way, but in the end Groves stands up to Anderson's biggest punches and rallies with thrilling bursts of punches to take a thrilling decision.

Agree with most of what you've said but Groves will not stand up for about 10 min if he gets hit with one of Anderson biggest punches, that I am sure off.

It's a 50/50 fight imo but if Anderson clocks Groves it will be over.

Re this article Benny- where will it appear? Also just to make it clear i'm in no way insulting Groves- he's a class operator but they are underestimating Kenny. I can spend the next week saying this but its up to Kenny to show people what he's got on the night.

Wonderful matchup :TU: :box: . Proves beyond doubt, Groves is prepared to take big risks. Full marks to Anderson too.

A real 50/50 fight between two hungry boxers. I think this will be a much better fight than DeGale's.

I don't think I've ever agreed with anything you've said, hoop, but I do here.

Good fight to be made. Hopefully a sign of the way the division is going (all the top ten lads fighting each other) and an intriguing fight. :TU:

If Anderson lands a decent shot it's game over for Groves. His chin is badly vulnerable, hit the deck in amateurs, ko'd, decked in sparring recently and Anderson can dig. Groves could look great because Anderson is slow at times, predictable and easy to hit. He has struggled with Mendy and King but this fight/show should make him rise to the occasion big time.

I'll be having a bet on the fight not going the distance, Anderson early - Groves late.

^^ sounds about right to me, Paul. I am not keen on how flat/heavyfooted Anderson can sometimes look, but 12 rounds is a long time for Groves- who makes his share of mistakes- to keep his chin protected. :TU:

Yeah of course, Groves throws a lot of hurtful punches though. Although not a one punch banger, they will take their toll. Hence me saying Groves late. You're right though, 12 rounds punching the way Groves tries to along with being hit back harder than anyone he's fought could tell.

Groves will look great against anyone who'll let him so Anderson has to perform and be on the ball.

How many times has Groves been dropped / stopped in the amateurs? I know Travis Dickinson stopped him and that he had to take a knee against Froch in sparring lately.

But other than that? I'd be grateful if people could shed any further light.

I wasn't there Ben so my info is 2nd hand. In my opinion though, this is any boxer and not just Groves - "had to take a knee" means you have your senses and choose to take a knee. Being hit that hard that your senses go and your legs give, dropping to your knee is a different matter. Also you won't see many people taking knees from head shots voluntarily. Normally body shots do that. :TU:

Yeh I agree with that Anderson will have to start fast and keep busy if he goes missing in action like he has before for a round or two then it will be right up Groves street. I think Groves may keep his hands up for the first few rounds but will get dragged into a fight and get clocked, I dont think it has to be Andersons biggest shot to put Groves away. I cant see Groves stopping Anderson unless Anderson is unfit which considering he is sparring with Froch at present seems unlikley, but you never know. Its sink or swim time for both of them.

Degale and groves have had everything there own way. But when they come up against two tough as nail guys who are not going to roll over then we will see what yhey have got.
