Food in Manchester

What will everyone be eating up in Mancehster - I've heard that Northerners like thier meat and potatoe pies so I might try one myself along with a pint of Boddingtons.

Can anyone recommend any good places to eat - does Long Legs do food? Long shot I know but it is in Chinatown...

Any help greatly appreciated.

Yes longlegs is in china town. There plenty of food places around the men arena n in the print works just across from the men

I like most foods but like to try regional specialities / local dishes - hence the reference to pies.

Sams Chop House is the place you are looking for without a doubt 100%. google it. Went last month. All local produce etc etc. Walking distance from everywhere really and a nice bar area for before/after..

I've a big fan of the two real suggestions so far - Sams and Bem Brasil. The Corned Beef hash starter at Sams is simple to die for on a cold Winters evening.

But he wont have enough with £10-£15 for either of those establishments.

As a Northerner who has lived in London for the last 4 years, I wouldn't say there is much difference in food choice in City Centre pubs, bars and restaurants these days. It's just that it costs a lot more in London. We ended up getting these View Experience tickets for £150 each so we apparently get to go into the View Bar and drink throughout the night rather than make do with the concourse so we'll probably just grab something in there. Not sure what the food will be like.

You just got to go with the steak and kidney pie and chips soft spongy type pastry on the bottom , filled with suculent bits of meat and a thick dark gravy , the odd little bit of sliced kidney and topped with a crusty pastry which if left in the oven a extra hour or so goes dark brown on the outer edge .

Served on a bed of chips, small fat greasy chips done in well worn oil to give that erotic greasy smell
Can be acompanied with mushy green peas that make you fart all night , or for the person with a more exotic taste can be covered with curry .

Too be served on a plastic tray with a fork , or just simply dished up on its own with chips and vinegar for the more basic eater of this fine culinary dish .

The above can be served up in most chippies after 15-18 pints , This paticular renowned and much sought after english dish , can be quite dificult to find in a english chippy after 8 o clock , but is more often availanble in the chinese chippys , there you can find other sumptious dishes such has , egg foo wong , sweet n sour pork , and fried rice .

Be warned though that this is manchester , the birth place of lager louts and venturing into the chippys after closing time , can sometimes be quite hazardous , In these establishments its not unlikely to see the boxing carrying on after the show , when pissed up drunks feel the need to push there way in the que.

Other than that china town is always good for a meal and oxford road has some fine culinary take aways
