Martin Lindsay ready to take on the World!...

Post by antcull »

Well, maybe not yet when looking at the top names in the division with Gamboa, JuanMa, Rafa Marquez, Caballero, Ponce De Leon and more. I'm pretty disappointed in how Lindsays career has stagnated since his highly impressive back-to-back victories over Derry and particularly against Appleby. In the last 18 months hes had a 6 rounder and a 8 rounder against opposition he should have left behind by now and a defence against a brave Jamie Arthur sandwiched in between. Not really top form for someone who was hoping to break onto the World scene. Simpson will give him a tough night but I would imagine he'd come through that in a great fight.

Anyone know what happened to the mooted Lindsay-Dib IBF eliminator, was that ever a serious option? With Gamboa picking up the IBF title recently I guess the best Lindsay can hope for is a fight for the vacant IBF belt late 2011. I would imagine that would be the route Lindsay is looking at. Really hope his career can kick off as he gives great value.

imo if he stays at domestic level 2 much longer smith will beat him, he should be looking towards a european title shot not hanging round fighting simpson, i no it will be a exciting fight but it wont help him get world title shot

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Simpson beat Lindsay. I thought he won the Smith fight by 2 rounds and wasn't even at his best. If the fight wasnt in Belfast I'd make Simpson favourite.

I cant wait for this fight, the atmosphere will be great and simpsons bang up for this so he can win the lonsdale belt outright, the irish know there Boxing and will see a great fight by two top boys.

Had Smith scraping through by a point myself, could have gone anyway, very hard fight to score although I agree that John didn't look himself in the early part of the fight.

Lindsay-Simpson has a big chance of grabbing the domestic FOTY honours, really looking forward to it. I'd imagine the atmosphere will be out of this world when they fight. If Lindsay wins this should he go for Steven Smith? Or would he have paid his dues at domestic level and go for the Euro strap or World eliminator. Lindsay would be too much for Smith currently IMO

Regardless of the outcome between Lindsay-Simpson I hope a rematch between Smith and Simpson happens.

There isn't a British featherweight who can compete at world level right now. Choi is the only one with a shot, but he wouldn't beat the top guys.

Certainly not with the top boys, but picking up a world title doesn't always mean competing at world level :OhYes:

Chris John is MIA. If JuanMa beats Rafa it could be the end of Rafa competing at the top level. Gamboa and Cabellero only want big fights (I could see Caballero move up again if he doesn't get a big FW fight), Ponce De Leon is set for a WBO shot so Lindsay can do something in this division while avoiding the best guys.

I think Lindsay himself has said he isn't ready for another 3/4 fights anyway so we'll have to see the improvement he makes, and of course you never know how a division is (strength wise) in even 6 months time. Alot could and probably will change before Lindsay can get a shot.

Choi wouldn't beat Stephen Smith, Lyndsay or Simpson!
Severely overrated. Plus he's a super featherweight and I'd give 20/1 on him winning the forthcoming Prizefighter :TU:

Whos saying Choi is World Class?

Hes clearly not had the opportunities that his talent has deserved, I don't see at all how he is severely overrated, I wonder if Swifty could have gone 10 rounds with a fighter like Sahaprom in his 3rd fight :D

we spoke to paul appleby at the simpson-smith bout and he reckoned the winner would go on and beat lindsay? it'll be tough for john fighting in ireland but he's used to fighting away and upsetting the applecart. good match up.

Who knows, I do know Swifty would box the head off Choi, it would be a boxing lesson. Stephen's chin is solid so there goes Choi's only chance of winning.

i rated derry mathews prior to his losses with choi and lindsay. He beat simpson handily, was beating lindsay and i believe it was chois strength at the weight that done derry over. If derry has a stronger chin he wouldnt have lost to lindsay, no idea what hapened against choi, seemed to not be able to take body shots.

Dont know what fight you were watching. That fight was another in the hard luck column for John. Didnt Duke McKenzie score the fight for Simpson. Either way it was extremely close and Simpson had a horrific gash on his head running into his eyes.
