Scottish trainer -Billy Nelson
Billy worked with Peter Harrison when both Alex Arthur and Scott Harrison were at their height . What a great opportunity to learn the ropes ( no pun intended ). Since then he's opened his own gym and I for one have noticed a huge improvement in the quality of his fighters . It 's not so much the technical side of the game where I think I see the biggest improvment , its in his ring tactics . To my mind its not good enough just to get a boxer fit , punching properly , and being able to defend himself . I think you have to have a plan . Not just for the 12 round championship fights , but for the 6x 2's and 4 x 3's . I feel you have to decide how the opening rounds are going to be played out , and how the boxer is going to perform towards the end . Another thing I like about Billy's style is in the corner . Watch what he does in Ricky Burns' corner during his fight with Martinez if you have got it taped .
I don't have any connection with Billy Nelson or his fighters , I'm just an observer , but I think its time that someone stands up for a Scottish trainer . I read so many articles about this or that great trainer from Manchester , or Liverpool , or London and I don't dispute their abilities , especially someone like Brian Hughes , but we can do it up here as well !!

Yeh I agree Billy has done well by his fighters and is a very experienced coach hopefully Burns keeps in the up and his younger fighters start to step up.

In my opinion Billy is a class trainer. Watched and listened to a lot of things he says and he speaks a lot of sense. One of a good few who have helped a young pup like me out and I appreciate that- but regardless of that, his results can't be denied. Sometimes a change is as good as a rest for fighters- but he is very close to his fighters and obviously picked up great experience with Peter Harrison and has now come into his own as a trainer.

Billy as someone who has worked with kenny anderson in past, how do you rate his chances of causing the upset against groves?

I think hes got a very good chance,i see the fight going two ways grooves by points or kenny by KO as kenny posseses a great punch when he connects correctlybigped wrote:Billy as someone who has worked with kenny anderson in past, how do you rate his chances of causing the upset against groves?
