Oldest topic in the book, I guess.

I wouldn't lay a dime on it, but if made to choose, I have a suspicion Louis gets him.

Same, 15 rounds with your hands at your sides just seems like much too long. I think Joe could hang with Ali in the jab department and that can negate some of Ali's massive advantage in foot speed.

Pre-Layoff Ali I would definitely take Louis and that is where the majority consider Muhammad to be at his best.

Ali on points, though I do think Louis would drop him at least once. This would look like a battle between all time greats. Although I pick Ali, I'm sure Louis would give him all he could handle.

Ali by TKO in 10 rounds. Too fast for a heavyweight. Louis did not had the best of chins either.

Louis is one of my favourite finishers.

I think if he got Ali in trouble, he could very well get him out of there.

Rating heavyweights peak vs peak, I think it's Ali & Louis, a fairly big gap, then the rest of the pack.

Ali on points. Louis wouldn't have knocked him out and couldn't have outpointed Ali. Then there are 30 years difference in nutrition and evolution on Ali's side. Same reason why Lennox Lewis > Ali.

I gree with Ali over Louis, but not Lennox over Ali. Lewis never fought anyone that was as difficult to hit as Ali. A pre-ban Ali would have beaten Lewis with ease. Dundee would have worked out a fight plan. Ali would have have happily let Lewis have centre ring, stayed on the outside, leaned back from Lewis' punches and picked him off. I can't imagine even a prime Lewis going 15 rounds.

I know Louis had serious KO power but would he have been able to put it on Ali?

Joe's hand speed was exceptional, and when he needed to he could deliver paralyzing power with extremely compact punches. His handspeed was one of his greatest assets.

From the waist-down, Ali has a big advantage in footspeed (though not necessarily footwork), which would absolutely be problematic for Louis.

However, from the waist-up (specifically, handspeed) Louis gives up very little ground to any Heavyweight, even Ali. One of Ali's biggest problems (& some will tell you, his biggest, period) is Louis' handspeed, not his power. Ali leaning backward & swaying out of range with his hands low could potentially prove a recipe for disaster...no HW in history was as well-equipped as Louis to capitalise on that particular Ali trait.

That's realy interesting thanks, did you have Louis yourself to take this fight?
On top of that who was comparable to Louis that Ali actually fought would you say?

Really wonder what Steve-O , gilgamesh, elmersalsa and Seamus take would be on this topic?
Can't wait for them to share their opinion on this matter.

I've got no idea as it happens.
From my perspective I couldn't fathom why you were annoyed that I hadn't seen Goodnight's earlier response, especially when it was specific to him?
