i'd heard similar tales many years ago.
i used to boil them up, strain them, then drink a glass or two a day...
Can't honestly remember any noticable gain in stamina/fitness...
Just another placebo in the sports supplement genre ....and it tastes terrible!
Beetroot Improves Stamina
Re: Beetroot Improves Stamina
Seems it does what they say it does asked at the uni today. The guy who did the testing is Highly thought of, but it was not tested on active sports people, so the jurys still out.

I also do a good curry pickled onion, it might not improve stamina, but after eating a few your breath will knock anyone out.

Cheers for that.MachoMan09 wrote:Beetroot is beetroot. As with any vegetable, though, the fresher the better. I would argue that a bottled product whilst potentially easier to administer is likely inferior to a blended drink made from a grocer's wares. I would advise to drink a large glass-full approximately 30-45 mins prior to training, in order to gain the vessel dilation you are looking for. Other benefits are that beetroots are comparatively well laden with proteins. Beware if you are trying to lose weight, though, they have considerably more calories than most other types of vegetable.carlbcfc wrote:Is it this simple then? People have mentioned to get certain beetroots, whereas I thought a beetroot was a beetroot.MachoMan09 wrote:How is this a new thing? Beetroot soup (borscht) has been a national dish in pretty much all the old eastern bloc countries for generations. The vegetable's qualities are well known there. The greatest wrestler of all time (Alexander Karelin) used to neck the stuff down like water.
Why pay over the odds, at Holland & Barrett or wherever, when you can simply buy fresh beetroot and stick it in a blender? Better quality, better value. Some people are mad.
Went into the local Polish shop. She could not speak English, and I did not see it in there.
-Three to four beetroots
-Peel
-Cut up into small pieces
-Smash it all in the blender
-Strain
Result = approximately 500ml of juice.
Re: Beetroot Improves Stamina
I´ve been ill for the past week so haven't trained, just done my shopping today and have loaded up with beetroots! Bought juice, also the vegetable itself so I can attempt blending it!
I did look on the net though and one site recommends you should only drink 250ml a day??
If you do blend it should you add anything? Or will it liquidise ok just by chucking it in the blender? Also is there any use in the rooty sort of bits? Or should they be cut off and thrown?

No-one has picked up on Ian's subtle hints at his beetroot cuisine company.
