Just done a tenner on Anderson just to win at 13/2 and another tenner on him by ko/tko/disq at 8/1. The 9/1 was no longer available. Crazy prices.
Took the 9's this morning for a few bob Steve, crazy prize even though I fancy Groves which kind of sounds foolish I know but sometimes you have to take the value.
Jesus, good job we got on sharpish mate as Anderson is now just 15/4 to win and 3/1 to win by ko/tko/disq at Sportingbet!! They'll get caned if either one comes in.
They have suspended betting now mate, be interesting to see what price they come back in at.
Still have to say I admire them for going up early and they will attract the boxing punter, few dispute Groves should be favourite so they have the jolly running for them and thats a position most bookies would settle for, they may well get away with it but we have had some fun with the value and may be only 1 punch away from collecting.
Shame i read this thread so late, no point going on it now.
Looking forward to the fight though, this is what everyone likes to see rather than Groves defending his title against some fella who looks about 12st hailing from Accra

As far as I'm aware Anderson has a pretty solid chin I have never heard of him being hurt or looking rocked, I think anyone saying Groves will win this easily is being taken in by the hype this is a massive step up for both of them. If I had to pick a winner I'd say Anderson between 3-8 by KO, If it goes the distance then I go with Groves.
My mate stopped Anderson in the amateurs. Had him down too. Clubmate of mine, good friend. I remember it well I boxed on the same show

Jack Dempsey ref'd it and they fought in y fronts.

Must admit I'm a bit puzzled by the picks in this thread. Case of the heart ruling the head maybe, or wanting to see Groves beaten.
Not really mate, Anderson was the better amature and is by far the bigger puncher, people feel kenny just hasnt had the breaks since he went pro and now i his big chance, I see it is a solid 50/50 affair so odds no reflecting that need to be taken on.

The last time I saw Kenny live was v Nathan King and he was extremely lucky to scrape the win. I gather he looked ok against Carl Wild but this is also the biggest step up of Anderson's career.
I would love to see Kenny step up and beat Groves but if I am being honest I think they are in different leagues.

Why's he the bigger puncher? He doesn't appear to have stopped anyone with a winning record and Hasting Rasani, who hasn't he been stopped by?

I can't speak of his amateur days as I know nothing about them, all I can weigh up is what I've seen of him as a pro, and what I've seen of Groves. One looks like a decent domestic operator, the other (Groves) looks like he's headed for euro, possibly world level.
Groves could slip up, get caught, gas late, whatever... and I could undestand putting a tiny amount on that outcome but I wouldn't count on seeing it back.
I saw Anderson few times early as a pro and he looked really good deavstating puncher , however in his last fights hes looked stale and still amateurish however its well documented he had major problems up her with attemps on his life and whole other porblems so im sure that affected him, im sure the sparring with Froch will have set him up nicely and if hes on his game he could very well get to Groves however if hes form is the same as last couple then hell will get boxed rings aroung by Groves if Goves is sharp.
comon Kenny

No result would suprise me. It's a real 50/50 pick 'em. Anderson boxed brilliantly in the Commonwealths and Tony Jeffries could'nt match Kenny's power in their bout. That said Groves was no slouch.
I'm swaying Groves' way, but over confidence on Groves' part is a concern.
The only thing that would surprise me is if the fight doesn't live up to expectations.
Hey BigMark, you can't miss it, just type in Ringside when searching for a friend. There's not much to see yet though, we'll build it up when we get Haye / Harrison out the way and have a little more time.
ed robinson wrote:Groves is on Ringside tonight - along with Eddie Hearn and Adam Booth - there will be a bit of the spar between George and Kenny shown too.
It's an interesting one, as the Grove camp have obviously taken from the spar the idea that their man has the beating of Anderson. You'd think they'd be careful with such a hot property, but sometimes they seem in danger of overmatching him so early on. As happened with Haye..they seem to think his chin is good, matching him with a puncher like Paul Samuels in his first few fights.
So if we assume that Kenny does have a heavy dig on him ( and he sounds confident alright ) we might find out what George Groves is all about next Sat.
But Groves look like a pretty heavy puncher himself, not a one punch KO artist, but a very solid hitter.
think there was a thread about andersons troubles - didnt he get charged with attempted murder but then charges were dropped.
something to do with a local drug dealer who tried to do kenny with a hammer but the guy ended up getting smashed himself!

Kenny Anderson is overdue his shot. The unbeaten Scot challenges George Groves for the Commonealth super-middleweight title next week in Manchester and first hit the headlines in 2006 with an epic come-from-behind display against Nigeria's Adura Olalehin to win light-heavyweight gold at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. He turned pro in a blaze of glory the same year but has managed only 12 fights since (eight early wins). Anderson can whack, which means he struggles to find opponents, and he hurt himself at times, with out-of-the-ring troubles. Now pushing 28, the hardbitten, joyless Anderson puts it all behind him against the confident, upbeat Groves, every bit his opposite, every bit as unbeaten.
Groves, 10-0 (8), whacks himself and fully enjoys life at the tender age of 22. Indeed, there is an inexperienced feel about Groves, about a lot of these youngsters who lift a Commonwealth belt against a tough but unpolished African and then struggle when they really step up. Groves won the Commonwealth title with a six-round stoppage of Ghana's shopworn Charles Adamu earlier this year and still has to do more than eight rounds, whereas Anderson went 10 hard rounds with tough Welshman Nathan King last year in Glasgow to take a close decision.
Some are calling this man against boy because Groves fights like he believes he is invincible as he marches forward and unloads the big shots. He throws more than Anderson, and he can box a bit too, but his chin is there to be dented by someone as shrewd as the challenger. Groves was shaken in his last fight by an unheralded Mexican over in Las Vegas, shrugging it off to win in the sixth round.
Nevertheless, "Gorgeous" George showed he can come through a crisis and will undoubtedly have gained for the whole experience. If he shrugs off the inevitable big punches from Anderson, there is no doubt he possesses the ability, the desire and the workrate to come through again. He has the power to nail Anderson, too, we shouldn't forget that.
This could end at any time, either way, a tense, gripping affair, a brilliant 50-50 fight. I lean towards Groves.
