I really like the guy, he's a bit Alan Partridge with his presintation, but i think he brings better style to boxing shows.

and its good to see them having Ricky Hatton on the show and promoting his fight coming up , even though its not on ITV

Like Rosenthal as a anchor man, seems much more enthusiastic about boxing than F1. Never was a great boxing commentator though.

I've always like Jim Rosenthal myself, although like Stu says he is better suited to the anchor man role.

They could have unearthed someone different to commentate on Calzaghe, at least pretended they has a team at the fight last week. Old Jim might as well have done the commentary live from the Reebok.

Hatton's not too bad ringside actually. Rozenthal definitely suits the anchor and interviewer role

Overall, I was happy with it. A little bit long winded to begin with and they could have easily shown all of Calzaghe's fight (Joe looked old I thought, incidentely). Didn't need to have the expert views of James Cracknell and Freddie Flintoff.

I hope though that will just be a one off because it was a hyped show. If ITV get involved in slightly smaller fighters (such as Hennessey or non-Amir Khan related FW shows) the celebrity issue will not be there.

It was great to see Jim back, just two dissapointing notes though.

1) Not the old music - again I hope that will change when its not just about Khan

2) Where is Gary Newbon, we need Gary Newbon back.

I too like Hatton as a boxing commentator, he definitely knows what he is on about and I mainly always agree with what he says. Don't like Rosenthal as a commentator though, he is enthusiastic but that's about it in my opinion. I didn't think there could be a worse boxing commentator than Ian Darke but sorry Jim, you are it.

Anyone heard the commentary for Duran vs Hearns on ITV. Class.

Duran was in all kinds of trouble before the first knockdown but when Duran when down - Jim was having a fit. I know it was a shocker to see the iron chinned Duran down, but it wasn't in the context of the 10 seconds before.

"Duran is in all kinds of trouble here, he bravely tries to.... AND DOWN!!!!!!!".

Then when the finishing knockout happend (greatest knockout ever) what we had from Jim was.

"Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

Whilst I would have prefered Bremmer doing the commentating, I'm not complaining with Rosenthal as the commentator - 100 times better than Neilly.

When I read the start of this post I was reminded of Jim's commentary during the Hearns - Duran fight,he was so fired up it was incredible, early on in the fight he's talking about Duran 'waving Hearns in' because he 'loves to be hit' etc and, as you say, his reacton when Duran hits the deck is almost hysterical.
I also recall how excited he became during the Hearns-Roldan fight.
May not be the most knowledgeable of commentators but you can't really fault his enthusiasm.

Yeah Rosenthal is great, calling Kostya Tszyu 'Kostas' last night showed a fantastic passion and knowledge for the sport.

Hatton is a decent pundit but some of pronunciation makes me laugh, "lickle" instead of little and Zab "Juddah"

Watched a bit of it again last night whilst rewinding the tape and another pearler from Rosenthal at the end of the fight "Khan dethrones a legend", I mean fornicate off how did he dethrone Kindelan?

That's like saying if a Chelsea XI get beaten in a pre-season friendly by Dagenham & Rebridge that they've been dethroned. Never heard anything so stupid.

And "If they could make a gold now they would and they would hang it round Khan's neck". Like a 12 year old commentating.

Has anyone listened to Darkes commentry on the footy? Good grief, it's bad. He just doesn't sound like he gives a toss.
