Rees vs Watson (Spoilers)

Post by black panther »

Whose watching this? This is some fight!

Edit: Rees wins in the eleventh! Great fight! Watson looked outclassed in the first four, getting rocked repeatedly. Then in the fifth he came back, looked to have broken Rees nose and hurt Rees a few times with body shots. Watson looked to be taking over but then Rees floors Watson in the tenth with a short counter right hand. Rees all over Watson in the eleventh and Watson legs were gone - ref stops it. What's next for Rees? Murray-Rees? Yes please!

Watson started really slowly and gave away the first or even 6 rounds. In the 7th he started standing his ground and catching Rees, even forcing him back. The next 3 rounds looked like Watson was going to stop Rees as he landed some good body shots and with Rees seeming to be running out of gas it looked like Watson was only moments from victory. However just as it seemed Rees was done he came out for the 10th a lot composed and went back to his boxing, this seem to catch watson a bit by surprise and he looked a bit ragged, missing with counters. With about 30 seconds left of the round Watson missed with a punch with allowed Rees to hit him with a counter on the temple that put him down. Watson did well to survive the last 10 seconds but Rees jumped on him from the start of the 11th catching with good shots which led to ref stopping him on his feet under fire. Good stoppage and great fight
Thanks Bigmark sounds like I missed a cracker :TU:

Thought the fight was superb! Credit to both lads, both dug real deep there and put on a great show.

Impressions of the fight, firstly Rees speed look fantastic in the opening rounds, saw a significant difference from his LWW days and thought he looked very quick. Jab was strong and fired off at a good pace. Watson seemed pretty overwhelmed and clueless on how to counteract Rees' pressure and it looked like Watson was getting hurt by the numerous power punches from Rees. Remembering the Gethin-Watson fight I did feel Watson would have big trouble with Rees who applies harder pressure and throws more shots but I thought that would come in the later rounds.

Fair play to Watson after the 4th, he started using his height to good effect and used his boxing ability to frustrate Rees. Thought it was gonna be a full on war right to the final bell but a great temple shot by Rees and Watson never fully recovered after that. No complaints over the stoppage.

Rees-Murray would be absolutely insane over the first 6 rounds!!! Would have to feel Murray would break him down in the second half of the fight, his stamina is far better than Rees and he would punish him to the body. Still highly impressed with Gavin though, I think me, and most other UK boxing fans have been very harsh on him and we should recognise him as a very good fighter.

Watson can come back from this, great experience for him and hopefully he can get a rematch with Rees down the line.

I would prefer for Rees to move on and fight Murray, Mitchell or Arthur.

I think Watson could do with getting a bit more experience before giving it another go.

Good fight anyway. :TU:

Rees is Murray's European Mandatory challenger isn't he?

Unless Murray is getting a World title shot or eliminator then he won't really have a choice.

Very good fight which complimented Casey vs Hyland.

I had the Irish fight on the laptop and the Rees fight on the telly.

My mrs wasn't best pleased.. and it will only be the same story next Saturday too !
