A really good series that covers a who's who of early African-American boxers. I think they pretty much cover pre-1930 fighters. Certainly a collectors item. I've got the index's of all five volumes that names all the fighters covered, but I've only got photocopies of around 10, or 15 fighters from the series.

I dont know if he uses boxrec or not but Kevin Smith might be the best person to ask about this if its research your looking for.

He also has a website devoted to the subject....

Nat Fleischer's Black Dynamite Book Series

Post by Chuck1052 »

BLACK DYNAMITE is a series of books written about black
boxers. I found the said series very interesting and
somewhat informative, BUT.....the books are also loaded
with factual errors. Whatever Fleischer's merits as
a publisher-editor of Ring Magazine and as an
author of many books about boxing, he was NOT
a professional historian. Moreover, it is possible
that Fleischer didn't have the time to do the
necessary research.

True! I've read very few chapters, but I was really disappointed in his section on "Barbados" Joe Walcott. I was expecting not only a lot more material, but also things that I had not known beforehand, but that wasn't case. Most all that I have read from the series is pretty much material that has been covered, but there are some more obscure, or less known fighters. From a collectors standpoint they are very good, but as Chuck stated history-wise, they're certainly lacking.

These are very very collectable in a full set, volume 3 being the most hard to come by.

In the condition they are being sold( or said to be in) each would be a real bargain at anything below $60

I paid just a but more than that - but you're right. In and around $60.

The better condition the more they cost, fantastic set though :TU:

A must for any collection.

The bidding has finished.

Vol3=$66
Vol4=$72
Vol5=$69

About average prices, certainly not at a bargain but for these books you can`t really expect to get them at that anyway.

I bid only $50 for each, with the added $15p+p to the UK and with no real guarantee of condition $50 was very generous.

Clay Moyle has a great selection, and usually has these on offer, and with Clay the condition he says they are in is a guarantee.

My mother in law picked up a little book in the charity shop a couple of weeks ago for something like 50p, it was `The Michigan Assasin by Nat Fleischer`, always a good bet to give these shops a little look now and again.

Clay is great. He tells you straight what condition is goods are in and he`s honest.
