Haye v Harrison - who do you want to win?

I can't go for someone who has avoided ever fighting anyone in the top twenty in ten years, yet talks of themself as world championship material. So for that reason alone i go for Haye.

And how exactly has Haye been good for heavyweight boxing??
Its very clear he wants nothing to do with taking the K-brothers on ...all he does is spout off, then hide away.

What would be good for the heavies is if Chisora wins. Then we will have a geuine guy willing to fight the divisions top guys. Not another guy just threatening..

He's certainly better for boxing than Audley, a man who milked the BBC for a cool million, then stank the joint out and turned them off covering professional boxing. Yeah, what a great abassador he's been for the sport.

Chisora ain't going to win, he's so inexperienced. If he won the title it would be a freak result and he'd lose it against the next creditable challenger out there.

What's wrong with everyone!! For the first time in years we have a genuine world class heavyweight, who only 18 months ago everyone was cock a hoop about, and now because he's seen as cocky or dodging fights with the K brothers - even though for all we know it's to do with contracts - we're all supporting Audley. The man who deservedly gets ruined on here for wasting his talent, having no balls and talking even more shit than Haye!!

This is why we Brits are shit at sport! We have the wrong mentality for it! We prefer an amiable loser to a cocksure winner. If this was two Aussie fighters and a poll of Aussies, a loser like Harrison wouldn't even get a vote!

Not true. We aren't shit at sport, not by a long way. Why do people always bring up the Aussies and their fantastic mental attitude when it comes to sport? granted, they are shit hot when it comes to swimming and Rugby League(those two powerhouses of international sport!) but we finished above them in the medal table at the Olympics and as for Boxing, they would like a top 100 heavyweight let alone two fighting for a world title.

Seems to me people are annoyed because Haye has back tracked on his promise to fight the best and is taking easy fights so are turning against him. compare that to Mundine in super Aussieland who doesn't fight anybody but gets full houses everywhere he goes down under and lauded from pillar to post. Thats far more indicative of the mental attitude of the two nations me thinks

Granted Aussies are not really on the world map when it comes to boxing, but to be fair to Mundine and the rest of them it's not exactly geographically in a great place to be at the centre of the sport :)

British sport is becoming better funded at grass roots levels due to the lottery and in many cases developing youth programmes based on those in Australia, but I always think of a couple of incidents in the Olympics which highlight the two different attitudes of the nations sports fans. When Paula Radcliffe stopped during the marathon and had a cry at the side of the road the general consensus was poor Paula, she must have been exhausted. When an Aussie rower did the same and stopped rowing, their press and fans were unanimous in wanting her strung up!!

People supporting Audley just reminded me of this cultural difference. I hope in time when Haye has fought the K brothers, which I genuinely think he will do, some people on here will give him his due for making a lot of money in the meantime whilst putting himself in a stronger negotiating position!!

He battered Ruiz in what was a good fight to watch, beat Barrett which was worth watching just for Monte's ring entrance, sparked out Bonin in a round so I take it you must be referring to his fight with Valuev when you label him a boring heavyweight?

If Pacquaio's achievements at super-feather counted before he moved up to lightweight, if Hopkins' at middleweight were credited before he went up to light-heavy, etc, then why not Haye's at cruiserweight?

Everyone used to bang on about Haye having "not earned" a heavyweight title shot, but did Pac "earn" a shot at Diaz, and then at Hatton, and then at Cotto, etc? Did Hopkins "earn" his shot Tarver? Nobody questioned those fights, yet when anyone steps up tp heavy, there's this huge fan emphasis on "earning" a title shot. Why doesn't world-level success one division down count?

As for "clearing up", Haye won three belts in two fights. How long did it take Calzaghe to do the same? Quality, not quantity, is what counts. OK, so he didn't fight Cunningham, but let's say he did - would a win over Cunningham have made him more qualified at heavyweight? No.

And, aside from Valuev, when has Haye been "very boring" at heavyweight? Was it when he blitzed Tomasz Bonin inside a round? Was it his slugfest with Barrett? Or was it his four knockdowns of Ruiz?

Before you say it, I know Bonin was not a good opponent, and that Haye showed flaws against Barrett and Ruiz, but showing flaws through over-aggression is not the same thing as being "very boring". There may be criticisms over those fights, but a lack of action would never be among them.

Thanks, Wax. I have a strict policy of not getting into internet flame wars because I dobn't think they ever serve anybody well. So, tonyevs, I'm not going to fling insults back just because we have the sheer temerity to disagree with each other over matters of opinion.

Of course, I must reply to a couple of things, though. I didn't compare Haye with Harrison. I think it's pretty obvious the point I was making. I could spell it out more clearly, but what's the point of explaing fire to a fish, eh?

Perhaps you're right, boxing writing isn't my thing. Obviously having been published on the subject by daily newspapers and Boxing News counts for less than the opinion of someone I've never met and don't even know. I'll consider this next time I think about writing something.

And for whether or not Haye's fights are good... so you personally didn't like them. Fine, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But a great many other people HAVE been entertained by them. Your stance is the minority. That doesn't mean you're WRONG - again, it's just opinion - but if someone enjoying Haye's fights makes them the subject of ridicule, then you're going to have a lot of people to poke fun at!

Haye may be brash, arrogant, rude, crass and objectionable but what he definitely is not is boring. Apart from his fights with Nikolai Valuev and Ishmail Abdoul in 2006 (when he was delibarately executing a game plan to fight the full 12 rounds), Haye has never been in anything other than an entertaining fight. He puts it all on the line everytime he fights and almost always provides great value for money.

Absolute Drivel, granted Haye-Valuev wasn't an exciting spectacle (due to Hayes broke hand), but Bonin, Barrett and Ruiz weren't boring in the slightest.

I watched the Tyson interview where he talks about the Hayev v Harrison fight.

He brings up a very good point about the two fighter knowing each other very well. This can make a big difference because Audley will not be intimidated at all by Haye. He has been in the ring with him many times.

Doubt it will make any difference, but it is an interesting observation.

Haye fought everyone in the mix at cruiserweight while he was champ...he then moved up to heavyweight and every fight bar the valuev one (where he put on a fine technical exhibition) has been a thriller.
