nice thread mate, can't add much to it beyond saying that Naito fella has the ugliest herkyjerky style i have ever seen. makes me want to see him get banjoed its that ugly.

re the two draws between Nishioka and the V- how do you score them?

i don't think i could really quarrel with a 7-5 score either way, or indeed a 6-6 score, in the 3rd fight/ second draw.

however i thought the V took too long to warm up in their 2nd fight/ first draw, thought Nishioka got a decent lead early and V's pressure later on wasa little too late IMO.

i hope pongsaklek beats naito down in their inevitable 5th fight. naito was getting killed to the body in fight 4, he seemed to have to will himself through the late rds and was lucky to get the draw, as i saw it. good fight, though.

re the middle veeraphol-nishioka fights. 3rd and 4th bouts were extremely close. wouldn't argue with the draws too much or one point either way. nishioka really boxed well in those 2 fights, used good angles and veeraphol couldn't cut him off and had to land as man y lead rights as he could. the 2nd fight seemed to be veeraphol's worst, i agree, as he seemed somewhat flat. whereas in the 4th fight, veeraphol's movement was peerless, getting the shots off and then moving around in those tight little circles before punishing nishioka again, worstenign the cuts damage.

another good fight is nishioka v jhonny gonzalez. nishioka down in 1st, flattens gonzalez in 3rd with straight left. tough away fight for nishioka who passed the test and is really showing excellent form.

also what happened with prime jung koo chang vs a young sot chitalada? did chang get badly cut and have a real struggle on his hands?

glad there's been some interest in the veeraphol fights - he deserves it as he was an outstanding boxer, and deserves another look given the big successes of nishioka and hasegawa.

tatsuyoshi v yakushiji. just what you want from world class asian bantamweights, non stop action from 1st bell til last. brilliant contrast of styles, with tatsuyoshi landing wicked body shots and booming rights on his lanky challenger; and yakushiji using those long, slashing punches to fight his way off the ropes and mark up bleeder tatsuyoshi's face. many times tatsuyoshi looks on the verge of overpowering yakushiji, who then storms back. i had tatsuyoshi ahead after 8 but yakushiji started picking tatsuyoshi (whose vision was impaired due to bloody golfball swelling on left eye) off increasingly with combos in those knackering exchanges down the stretch. this was apparently a really big fight in japan, and blimey these 2 left nothing in the ring on their big stage. easily one of the very best i've come across between 2 world class asian fighters. seeing it online i was more impressed by the big punching of tatsuyoshi, but it was close and yakushiji got the verdict.

chang-ohashi 2 is certainly a furious battle with fierce changes in momentum, though much of the fight has chang backing up ohashi.

chang-kittikassem, one of chang's 3 failed attempts to win a 2nd world title, is a great one. it evolves from an ugly wrestling match in a brutal battle. chang, legendary junior flyweight, looks very small next to kittikassem at flyweight. some really damaging shots in this one. though i see the veeraphol-nishioka 2/3 and hasegawa 1 bouts as my faves, the one thing missing from these fights is the big power and the knockdowns that you see in the classic chang fights.

i'll be sure to check that one out.

just watched the all thai WBC elim between napapol kiatisakchokchai and saenghiran lookbanyai. superb war, up there with the very best. from a few years back. napapol then lost in a vacant WBC title fight with nishioka, another punchfest worth checking out.

pongsaklek wonjongkam v suryan por chockchai is also a minor classic, due to some tremendous all out exchanges in the 2nd half, and the novelty of cokchai throwing up while pongsaklek pounces with body shots.
