John Murray vs Brandon Rios
Looks like it will be an eliminator.
Not seen anything confirmed or official yet, but word on the forums is this is going to happen.
Thoughts?

This would be a great fight. Two big, strong lightweights who like a good scrap.

Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
Tough fight for both men. Rios is the bigger puncher but Murray has the better workrate. This would be an absolute war with their respective styles. Hope it comes off!
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
seems like the kind of fight where murray could really show what he's got, and also the kind of high stakes battle between prospects that shobox like to televise.
an elim for which title, though?

Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
for the WBC it was ordered at the recent convention
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
Watching Rios now. This fight could be a real humdinger!
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
i was thinking that :!:
great mind's eh
mirror image, rios look's heavier handed.

Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
Indeed!
Maybe best place for fight would be as support to a major US fight. If the fight turns out as hoped then that would be a great platform for winner.

If it does happen, please, please, please win, John Murray! Brandon Rios is such an arsehole.

Funnily enough, an incomplete sentence often doesn't make sense. I don't know what you're talking about.Grays_Dan wrote:But neither Rios or Margarito knewAsterix wrote: Brandon Rios is such an arsehole.
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
I assumed you may have been referring to the video of Rios and Magarito "mocking Freddie Roach" to which they both claim it was a private joke and neither of them knew about Roach's illness.Asterix wrote:Funnily enough, an incomplete sentence often doesn't make sense. Apoligies for assumption and lack of full sentences, its been a long day
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
Rios struck me as a bit of a mirror image of Murray, only better.

That's kind of how he strikes me as well...charlieb wrote:Rios struck me as a bit of a mirror image of Murray, only better.

Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
rios looks to have more of a dig but murray is technicly better. should be an interesting tear up
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
Ah, thank you for explaining it. It's not only that situation, it's the whole way he acted through 24/7.Grays_Dan wrote:I assumed you may have been referring to the video of Rios and Magarito "mocking Freddie Roach" to which they both claim it was a private joke and neither of them knew about Roach's illness.

Exactly. I think he'll eat Murray up. If you sand in front of a guy like that, your gonna feel pain.charlieb wrote:Rios struck me as a bit of a mirror image of Murray, only better.
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
they won't need a ring for this fight, get them a phone box.
Total war from start to finish, someone would have to fold before round 10.

Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
This could be an absolute cracker! Rios is a bigger one punch puncher but Murray's workrate is better and I think he has slightly faster hands. I think whoever is stronger will win, and I think it'll be Rios with the bigger one punch pushing Murray back and Murray isn't great on the back foot!

Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
The word is that Britain's unbeaten John Murray takes on America's unbeaten Brandon Rios in a WBC lightweight title eliminator shortly.
Murray, 30-0 (18), holds the European lightweight belt which he defended in impressive fashion last time out against Ukraine's vastly experienced Andriy Kudryavtsev, worn down and stopped in nine rounds. In this day and age you have to admire Murray for treading the traditional domestic route to the world rankings as he lifted the British lightweight title, secured a Lonsdale Belt outright, and then came the European. However, the relentless Manchester fighter steps up against Rios, a Texan with an equally aggressive style and a reputation as a big puncher.
Dubbed "Bam Bam", Rios has not been the distance since 2008 when he was held to a surprising 10-round draw by Denver's Manuel Perez for the only blemish on his record, but he took on Perez again last year and thumped his way to a seven-round stoppage. Rios, 26-0-1 (19), trained by Roberto Garcia and backed by Bob Arum, holds the NABF lightweight title and is a year younger than Murray at 24.
In this one, for either fighter, home advantage looks crucial.

Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
Murray has a better defence but Rios looks the bigger puncher. It would be a bit of a trade war. Good match
Re: John Murray vs Brandon Rios
I think Murrays stle will come undone when he come up against a puncher who can find the gaps in his defence and hads a good enough chin/engine to survive his onslaught.
He isnt a concussive puncher he ears opponents down so what happens when he meets somebody with a good chin who can push him onto the back foot and can punch a bit?
