Rahman vs Barrett

Post by boxerrob2005 »

I hope that sky show this fight live or at least delayed. does this fight interest other UK fans that much?. I think it will be a good fight. Rahman will be the favourite but Barrett definately has a great chance. Doubt we will see it but id definately stay up 2 watch it.

Same here I would even like to see the Brewster - Golota match-up think it will have to be ordered though

Its interesting although the HW devision is weak there are some competitivie match ups in there. What is going to happen with Tony since he was found with Nandrellone in his system will he be banned? I assume he will get another shot otherwise.

Also on that does anyeone think that Ruiz was tipped off that the results were going to look like that which was why he chainged his mind about retirement.

You would think Ruiz was probably tipped off but guess we will never know. I dislike Toney but he does make the divison interesting. The quality in the division isnt great but that doesnt mean the fights cant be exciting.

Ruiz is a joke. He gets dominated by Toney then gets his title back and he then calls himself the best Heavy in the world

Yeh thats a pretty stupid claim from ruiz. where are you planning to order the brewster-golota from? Who do reckon will win rahman or barrett? Both are on great form, i really cannot pick a winner yet but i think rahman has a better chance against vitali than barrett.

I would prefer to see the Golota vs Brewster match up. Very surprised that lot of the experts stateside are going for Brewster - his performance vs Meehan seems to suggest that he was a tad fortunate vs Wladimir (and that Wladimir was severely overated).

I hope Rahman wins, I remember Barrett vs Wladimir - he's not world class.

I am going to say Rahman because I think in general he has been in with better opponents, although he has not always won when you look at who he has been in with there are some impressive names
12 rounds with Ruiz
22 rounds with Tua
7 with sanders
9 with lewis
8 with Hollyfield

That is in a record when he has fought 46 people Barrat for me dosen't compair. He has Klitschko and a faded weatherspoon but other than that there are a lot of nealy men on his record. I think in the end Rahman will just know too much for him.

I hope Golota gets that one in my view he was a tad unfortunate against Ruiz and Byrd. He is one of the few true class members of the current HW devision he just has problems with confidence as seen in the bowe fights which he now seems to be mastering.

I think its difficult to say whether Barrett is world class or not. He was floored about 5 times against wladmir but since then only joe mesi has beaten him and who knows how good mesi could of been. Guinn was highly touted and barrett became the first man to beat him but because guinn has lost and drawn again since then its hard to say how good that win is. Same with Owen Beck. Barrett took his undefeated record but maybe Becks record flatterd him. Is Barrett a genuine world class heavyweight or has he just beaten overhyped opponents? I think we will find out against Rahman, because despite rahmans defeats he is a top heavyweight and is on a roll.
For the record i dont think mesi would of gone much further. a big puncher would of knocked him out.

I think you raise some interesting points, Barrett appears like a bit of an underachiever but more than likely he has beaten guys who weren't ever really that good anyway, but regardless he still deserves his chance. Rahman has been sounding confident in his interview with Boxing Monthly and was all pumped up for Klitschko and i expect him to deal with Barrett and probably inside the distance.

As for Golota-Brewster, well it does seem strange that a lot of people are tipping Brewster, we hear a lot about this lion heart he has and strong left hook and too be honest Golota is a bit of a loose cannon. If Brewster can take Golota's best shots and keep coming back it may break the Poles heart a bit. This one is interesting.

I see a major similarity between Rahman v Barrett and Brewster v Golota. Both fights pitch a more talented but continual underachiever (Rahman and Golota) against an overachiever who has maximised his potential of late.

If Rahman comes in fit and motivated like he did for Meehan he should handle even the in-form Barrett no problems. For my money Brewster has got the guts to break Golota.

Yeah i tend to agree, hence the support for Brewster, he is a warrior if nothing else and can break Golota's spirit.

I think Barrett is a tad overated and he will probably get dropped early and survive from there on to lose widely on points. The two are great friends outside the ring also from what I've heard.
I cant wait for the brewster-golota fight. I expect Golota to win but wouldn't be surprised if he threw it away and got outfought down the stretch but with Golota saying he will retire if he loses and Brewster a real gutsy "never say die" fighter all roads seem to be leading to one sweet fight.
I usually order from this guy in the US http://spcacc.tripod.com/ who records off US TV digitally directly onto DVD and delivers within a few days

I think Rahmans power will trump Barrets skills and speed. Rahman by ko after being at the end of Barrets jab for while. the only way Barret could pull it off is by outboxing Rahman from outside and keep on moving and sticking for the duration.
I dont think his legs are good enough to do that for 12 rounds. Rahamn will eventually catch up with him and put him to sleep.

To be fair Rahman maneged to find his way past Lewis's jab in there first fight, I would say that Barrat is significantly less profficient to those ends than lewis therefore in my view Rahman will not have much trouble.

Oh yes, I agree Barrett deserves this chance but I don't think he is particularly good just that Mesi and Jirov are/were no great shakes either (obviously Jirov was an excellent Cruiserweight).

Golota: I want Ruiz!
If he defeats Lamon Brewster for the WBO heavyweight title Saturday, heavyweight Andrew Golota knows who he wants next. "I want Ruiz," says Golota with no hesitation. "R-U-I-Z. I've never been robbed like that [Golota lost a unanimous decision to Ruiz on Nov. 13 in a fight where he dropped Ruiz twice, plus the WBA champion had a point deduction]. I hope the judges [for the Brewster fight] are not from New York. It was unbelievable for me. I still can't imagine how I lost that fight. It's so unbelievable. Ruiz has nine lives, like a cat. Nobody can destroy him."

I think rahman would beat ruiz if they fought again. Golota against rahman could also be an interesting fight.

As for Rahman versus Ruiz, a rematch would be a whole different matter IMO but then again if Rahman beats Ruiz we would have to have a rubber match and nobody wants a repeat of the Ruiz-Holyfield parody do they?

I'm not sure if Rahman beats Ruiz, he was in pretty good shape for the first fight but was surprisingly getting beaten in the jabbing department (which is Rahman's main strength).

I would favour Rahman, because it was close the first time - but not alot. Ruiz also seem to be able to hurt Rahman easier than the bigger punching Rahman hurt Ruiz.

Yeah that is true. Ruiz definately shook rahman with a big right but rahman never seemed to be trying that hard. Rahman has a better attitude and more determination at this stage in his career and think he would stop ruiz. I think ruiz is an easier opponent than barrett. I would even pick barrett to outpoint ruiz.
