FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
Promoter allegedly believes fighters should not be able to pick the round in which they win a contest, particularly if they have bet on such an outcome.
David Haye retained the WBA world heavyweight title with a third round stoppage over Audley Harrison in Manchester.
Harrison's performance drew criticism but it was Haye's claim on TV after the fight that he had backed himself to win in the third which has angered fans and boxing personalities alike.
Warren believes fighters who are also promoters, as Haye was for last night's bout, said: "For a fighter promoting it who is in the ring I think it is unacceptable.
"It just shouldn't be allowed to happen, It's not like they are not getting a fortune to fight in the first place," Warren told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme.
"I don't think it looks good for the game or David Haye if he has had a bet."
But fellow promoter Frank Maloney believes there is nothing to stop fighters like Haye picking the round they will win in and betting on it.
Maloney said: "(If) he can earn some more money and he believes in his ability that's up to him.
"Sportsmen bet on themselves. I don't think there's anything to stop them (boxers betting on themselves)."
Maloney admitted his disappointment at the fight but added: "I never changed my views that Haye would win within three rounds, I don't think Harrison should have been allowed to fight.
"The British public got what they demanded. They have only got themselves to blame."
Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch believes Haye backing himself to win in a particular round could have backfired.
He said: "You can't predict which round you are going to beat somebody.
"If you say 'I will beat somebody in round three' that can be your undoing. It might have just been a publicity stunt after the fight."
Froch focused on the performance of Haye and praised him for waiting for his opportunity to win in the third.
"He was very composed, he was cool. He wasn't doing anything too risky because Audley has got a punch.
"He waited his time and in round three he stuck it on Audley.
"(It was) a great performance from David Haye, he did what he had to do, what he said he would do."
Warren echoed the views of Maloney that Harrison should not have been allowed to face Haye.
He said: "I thought Audley Harrison was disgraceful. One person turned up, took his purse and that was it.
"He did not try in any shape or form and that's a disgrace to any fighter who gets an opportunity like that."
Warren also revealed that fans had been drawn into believing Harrison had a chance by the pre-fight hype.

Maybe F.W. should look at a few world title mismatches that have been on shows he has been involved in before he goes on about who deserves title shots, let alone how a fighter performs in one. Remember Tocker Pudwill and Bobby Gunn Frank?
Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
the problem comes when a fighter chooses his round to LOSE......not to win. its no different from a striker betting on himself to score between the 30th and 40th minute, its down to the opponent(s) to stop him !!

Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
I disagree with this. Its only relevant if the striker intended to, or deliberately ignored chances earlier on in order to cash in on a bet. To make it comparable, I also think he would have had already been paid millions for that one game.rhino222 wrote:the problem comes when a fighter chooses his round to LOSE......not to win. its no different from a striker betting on himself to score between the 30th and 40th minute, its down to the opponent(s) to stop him !!

I couldn't give a toss what round he betted on. If he wants to add that kind of pressure on himself that's fine. Ali was lauded for picking the right round. Who gives a monkies?
Different, however, if he's whispering in the clinch: 'Aud, go down now mate and you're in the money!'

Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
Maybe Calzaghe should have betted on a decision win over Hopkins ?
Then at least he might have earned some money for a 12 week training camp and 12 hard rounds.

Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
Anyone remember Hamed predicting a second round win over (I think) Juan Molina? Not only did he predict the round but he said second minute of the second round and even questioned the time of the stoppage when told it was in the 3rd minute of the second round..... I don't remember Warren being against Hamed predicting that before the bout.
I think the difference is the WAY Haye said it all.... I agree it could have been put across better.
cheers

Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
I can't say it bothers me too much however i do think it's a bit of a kick in the bollox for people who put a few quid on haye in first two rounds when it looked to me on reflection that he was just biding his time till round 3. Groves was jumping up and down like a madman when audley went down, i reckon he must have won a few quid, would have been nice for haye to have let everyone else in on it.

I thought it was illegal for professional sportsmen to bet on themselves?
Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
Apologies, no idea why I wrote that earlier: I meant either Juan Cabrera or Remigio Molina -and now I have no idea which one I meant..... and I think BOTH ended in the second!T.M.K wrote:Anyone remember Hamed predicting a second round win over (I think) Juan Molina?

However you are correct
Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
I can kind of see why people would be upset. Let's say Haye is scheduled to fight an 0-25 fighter who has lost all his bouts by first round KO to other bums. If the over is 5.5 rounds and Haye intentionally carries him so he collects his own bet on the over, Haye would be "throwing" the over/under. Just like if a fighter is a huge favorite to win outright and he decides to fight in a way that would allow his opponent to score more points...everyone would say this guy threw the fight and should be banned from boxing. I think it is different when you bet on yourself outright, because then it doesn't matter how or when you won, and there is really no way you can throw that result.

Hamed and Ali predicted, nothing wrong with that.
Haye appears to say "NOW" to Audley just before he goes down, that's of a bigger concern, perhaps they both bet on 3!

Do they really hate each other or was it a big charade to con the public?boxingchat wrote:Hamed and Ali predicted, nothing wrong with that.

Yes, you must be right. Harrison looks to be really enjoying getting his head knocked back and forth from Haye's punches and was just standing waiting on the shout to take a dive.boxingchat wrote: Haye appears to say "NOW" to Audley just before he goes down, that's of a bigger concern, perhaps they both bet on 3!
It was a mismatch no doubt, but the so called best promoter in Britain has put on equally as bad fights and never promoted them half as well.
Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
Fact of the matter is Warren would love to promote Haye - and if he did, he would have made this fight and hyped exactly the same - and then defended Hayes comments after the fight.
Frank can't stand not having Haye on his books. Was surprised at how ecstatic Kalle and Wilfred were after the stoppage, I was under the impression Booth and Haye weren't that keen on them, but all seemed well. Wonder if their involvement will make negotions with the Klitschkos difficult?
How many fights post Valuev have Sauderland Event got a stake in Haye for? Was this the last one?

Re: FRANK W HAYE SHOULD NOT CASH IN
May be Frank should look closer at the Heavyweights he promotes. Doesn't seem to have alot to say about Chisora who Steals, Assualts women and Bites opponents.
Frank comes across as very bitter and twisted against any British fighter he doesn't promote. It becomes very tiresome and sad that he has to be like this.

warren called it the worst fight he had ever seen, sorry that one belongs to Aud vs Williams 1. 12 rounds of sheer tedium.
Cant for the life of me remember who promoted that tho can anyone else, it was at the excel I was there...oh and skelton dumped mcdermott in the 1st round in a total mismatch also i recall ...amir beat up a no one...plenty of fairly one sided beatdown and crap fights on that card...i think the company that promoted it went into solvency as i recall

Too true mate. That was an absolute embarrassment. However, it was at least not for a world title.J wrote:doctorboxing wrote:Yes, you must be right. I'd love to debate this issue, but I've been at work all day, so I'll just say this.
