OBSERVATIONS
Some crazy weight gains and losses for these boxers
I would like to meet the guy who organised this for the same time as the Asian games which meant some Asian boxers had to make an unenviable choice

It's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. There is no real mainstream TV coverage in the US other than some Hispanic station that most non Hispanics would not have. I also don't know if they will draw well at the actual arenas during American football season. Two of the US cities do have large Hispanic populations but if they can watch it at home, why go to the arena.
If it helps get rid of the alphabet pro organizations that are killing pro boxing, I'm all for it. But they need to rethink about the automatic bids to the Olympics if it impacts the other boxers from the same countries.

I just talked to one of the Americas officials for the WSB and he told me they can't work LA or Miami shows because the State Athletic Commisiions in those states will not let them. They want their own state officials working the events. I had talked about that here a while ago wondering if this might happen. Pro boxing is scared of the WSB, all of them, the alphabet organizations, the SAC's, etc. I am currious how AIBA will handel this.
I also hear that Europe is excited about the WSB but I just don't know if it will go over well in the states. The WSB needs the US to be productive and exciting to make it seem legit as the US has always been the Meca of pro boxing, It's getting bigger in Europe now but still most of the mega fights are in Vegas.

AIBA can't control U.S. laws. There will be lawsuits filed (and they will most likely be successful) if a U.S. boxer wins the individual WSB championship and other USA boxers are denied an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Trials in the weight class in which they are qualified (i.e. they won the PAL, U.S. Nat'l Chp, NGG, etc).

I think US hispanic channel VME has the rights to show the WSB in USA.

Matchups for the first round of the WSB (except Miami Gallos vs LA Matadors) can be seen here: http://www.worldseriesboxing.com/schedu ... -2011.aspx

I´m going to Milan to watch Milano Thunders vs Paris United :TU: . Unfortunately not too many World stars in the leauge. The russians have No 4s or lower in their team :-? .

If the bouts were on TV, I would definitely watch them. I think there are a lot of amateur fans that would and probably quite a few pro fans (many are both) who would if they watched it once. The nice thing about the WSB from purely a spectators point of view is the bouts are going to be competitive. Much more so than your typical pro card.

Now if I can just find a way to watch the bouts on VME. I think it will be on TV here at least on replay, but I think it is broadcast in Spanish. My Spanish vocabulary will increase.

Here is the VME schedule for the next couple of weeks:

11/20 - Mexico City Vs. Memphis
11/27 - Memphis Vs. Miami
12/04 - highlight show
12/11 - Los Angeles Vs. Memphis
12/18 - Memphis Vs. Los Angeles

I actually have this channel, will be watching and recording the telecast.

WSB is an interesting concept, fights should be good and competitive, but I wonder how many people will show up crowd-wise.

WSB is an interesting concept, but if the public doesn't watch it, then it won't succeed. The boxers will also suffer a lot of wear throughout the season. It is pro boxing, the boxers are being required to get professional licenses and the commiissions will oversee the competitions.

VME will air one competition each week (5 bouts) starting this Saturday (tomorrow) from 8-10 pm. I think they will also show highlights of other bouts and/or a replay at other times and/or on other days. I think it will also be a replay, highlights or promoting upcoming bouts on the "off" weekends.

I will be watching tomorrow.

Me too. I've got it to DVR. It's channel 440 on Direct TV but I saw World Series of Boxing on other channels as well in the guide.

The results should include the scores of the bouts. Was the bout 50-45 on all judges cards or was it a split decision with 48-47, 48-47 & 47-48 scores?
Did memphis get destroyed or was there some home cooking going on in Mexico City?

I have enjoyed the bouts of the Memphis vs Mexico City competition. Or is it match, game, meet, etc? The team concept is new so I don't know the proper term. The bouts are on par with many of the top pro bouts you see on TV. Much better than most of the 4 and 6 round preliminary bouts they show on TV. These bouts are competitive.

There were some good fights in Milan. JJ Nevin was too smooth and too big for Picardi. Valentino looked good beating the frenchman. Derevyachenko destroyed his opponent. Groughe won against technically better Grisunins but Groghue worked hard and showed a great spirit. Russo was too fast in the final match and won clearly despite being the smaller man.
Some 1500 in attendance, too little to break even I guess. But a nice venue, good fights and the italians winning can hopefully increase that number though I have my doubts.

Beacuse even on a 47-47 the judge needs to say who won for him...There are no ties in amateur boxing.
