Mouthguard Hygene
Mouthguard Hygene
I've had to start using one for training, rolling, blah. Any hygiene tips appreciated. How I keep it free of gingivitis and poo breath.
Re: Mouthguard Hygene
Don't lend it to any one else ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

Sorry to Bring The Aud into this but noticed after first knockdown the ref put audleys Gumshield back in his mouth after it being on the floor , is that allowed these daysdberry wrote:Don't lend it to any one else
usually if gumshield comes out the take time out to wash it or leave it out till break in fight
this may have gained him valuable time and i reckon he might have regrouped and won the fight in later rounds

I always clean mine with a toothbrush and toothpaste after use and then rinse it off properly
Re: Mouthguard Hygene
Denture tablets left over night do the trick.
What about head guards? Mine stinks.

Had the sam problem with my shinguards. Use an anit-bacterial wipe to clean them. Then wipe off with a towel.sy86 wrote:What about head guards? Mine stinks.

That wouldn't work mate. Bacteria will survive freezing temperatures and when thawed will re-activate. I found most gloves will go through the washing machine on a cold wash and just dry in the airing cupboard. With regards to gumshields I usually just rinse them before and after use and I've never had any problems. If it starts looking a bit minging then a good brush with toothpaste will do the job.Gazmac81 wrote:I boy down my Gym mentioned that if you put your Gloves in Freezer that they Clear out the bacteria ect

I noticed that to and thought he looked to have spat it out on purpose. Good reffing if you ask me, I think that should be standard. I mean come on, we get punched in the head for a living (some more than others) a bit of dust or bacteria off the canvas is hardly going to do us in is it?Gazmac81 wrote:Sorry to Bring The Aud into this but noticed after first knockdown the ref put audleys Gumshield back in his mouth after it being on the floor , is that allowed these daysdberry wrote:Don't lend it to any one else

Different bacteria are resistant to different things. Freezing will kill some and just stop them multiplying to pathlogical levels in others (that's why you have to be careful with certain foods).demolitiondaley wrote:That wouldn't work mate. You could try TCP or corsodyl if it's really starting to smell bad i.e. bacteria.

I put mine through the dishwasher when it starts to taste funky. Sometimes i leave it in my gym shorts pocket when i put them in the washing machine both work.
I have a proper gumshield made by a dentist so that might be the only reason that it doesn't lose it's shape.

The only weigh to insure the guard is not dirtied or compromised is to keep it on yourself at all times. I recommend sticking it up your rectum.

Rectum?

Re: Mouthguard Hygene
If i remember rightly mine cost about £80 but it might have been £100. I had to get it shaved down a couple of times because it is such a tight fit it really made my gums sore but they are so much better than the cheap ones. Worth every penny especially if you don't have to pay London prices.hurlock wrote:thats cheap most dentist charge 100 upward's.MachoMan09 wrote:Dentist made ones are streets ahead, mate. i dont know what to say mate... my gloves really dont smell lol, i only use my own gloves, and like i say they get used at least twice a week... i always put it down to putting my wraps thru the washing machine after every use, i never wear them twice in a row... i pick my mate up every session and the second he gets in the car he stinks it out with his gloves
maybe im lucky lol
Re: Mouthguard Hygene
If you need one don't bother with the dentist , they charge a arm and a leg , find a local dental technision there the ones who actually make them any way ,
