Which Fights Do You Think Were Fixed or Thrown?

Post by keithmoonhangover »

It's a bit of a Taboo subject, but I'm sure there are more than just LaMotta-Fox.

I read in a few places that Dempsey through the Fireman Jim Flynn fight.

I'll probably get shot for even suggesting it, but I always thought the Morrison - Foreman fight was a little fishy.

Not that the fights were fixed but for a while it seemed like all Eubank had to do was go the distance to get a draw minimum.

Well said Ezzard. I remember Michael Nunn getting interviewed after Benn clearly beat Eubank in the rematch, but before the decision wa announced. Nunn said it was a draw.

On second viewing it was closer than it first seemed but I turned to my friends and said exactly the same thing.

The draw made so much sense. They could both remain world champions and both keep earning the big money.

Foreman/Moorer wasn't fixed. Moorer was clearly in cuckoo land, the eyes gave it away.

Tyson/Seldon wasn't a fix either, Seldon just bottled it, big time.

Hello? Clay vs Liston 2. One of the most obvious cases of a fighter taking a dive in boxing history, he gets up on a knee at the count of 7, then rolls back over. For about 8 or 9 more seconds. I don't know why Liston took a dive, and I've heard several theories, but I'm 100% sure that he wasn't legitimately knocked out.

It does look very fishy.

Foreman Moorer....was very fixed......Foreman "fixed" an entire fight where he was losing, with a single punch that laid Moorer flat out. Just the sort of fix every puncher hopes for when things arent' going their way.

Foreman-Moorer: When you get down to it and start digging into how much money Bob Arum was throwing around to keep the Foreman gravy train rolling along and then look at how ridiculous the KO was its pretty obvious to me. Foreman nuthuggers who think his power was just ungodly will get pissed when you bring this but those are just the type of people Foreman and Arum were taking advantage of.

Greb-Tunney 2

Paulie Ayala had about three or four fights fixed in his favor in a row and around the same time Morales had a couple also.

You really have to feel for Moorer. Getting your face caved in by a massive fist and being flattened nearly unconscious is a miserable way to take a dive. Foreman was losing rds, but he was landing heavy shots on Michael all night.

Instead of laughing, why don't you say something constructive? Why mention some fights?

I do plenty of that throughout the forum. In this particular instance, I choose merely to laugh...

There were some murmurings about a fix after Fenech - Nelson 1. With Don King and his boyfriend Sulaiman involved you could never tell wtf was going on. The rumour got back to King who rightly explained that if there was going to be a fix it would have gone in Fenech's favour rather than a draw. Fair enough

Yes. 100%. The result was fixed. Much like the Chavez - Whitaker.

Anyone else think that Richard Steele was on the Don King payroll for Chavez - Taylor I

Chavez/Randall II wasn't a fix in the typical sense. But there was some tomfoolery around Chavez quitting and getting the nod in a fight he was clearly losing.

Sooooo let me see if I get this theory straight.

-Foreman loses every round of the fight.

-Moorer (the undefeated undisputed linear heavyweight champion) takes a dive.

-Moorer, presumably would have been paid to take this dive. What 1 million? 2 million? 5?

-By taking this dive Moorer throws away what would have been huge paydays against guys like Bowe, Tyson, Holyfield (when it mattered), and maybe Lewis.

-Instead of these big paydays he fights Melvin Foster, Axel Schultz, and Frans Botha where his purses probably totaled what he would have made in his next fight had he beat Foreman.

-Then to top it off, he and his trainer (Teddy Atlas who has one of the biggest mouths in boxing) has never once insinuated or hinted that anything fishy went on with that fight.

-Plus, unless you are blind you can see that he was just knocked the F out.

Grand conspiracy theory though. :o I love when they are presented with no facts. It is a shame when you call into question 2 champions integrity for no reason at all.

It's just opinion. I think Foreman threw the Morrison fight.

I'll not hear another word about Foreman Moorer being fixed......nothing but jabberwocky. And now the Morrison fight? Aye yi yi yi yi.

You need to "fix" the lenses in your glasses. Now the Briggs Foreman fight was poorly judged IMHO....but doubt it was a fix. Just the work of some brain dead judges.

You are misusing the term "fix".

In a fixed fight the loser has been paid to lose deliberately so that the parties involved can bet on the fight being sure of the result. Chavez Whitaker was corrupt judges if anything. Just as Chavez/Taylor would be a corrupt referee by your reasoning, but not a fix.

If the loser hasn't been paid off, even if you have the judges in your pocket, there is still the possibility of a knockout meaning the result is not certain.
