leapai closer
Chagaev beat Travis Walker in a close 8 round decision in Germany. As Chagaev is based in Germany the close decision would have been very close if you get my drift. It means Alex leapai, who despite his skill limitations, is improving every fight, is not too far away from the so called top heavyweights.
Re: leapai closer
But you can't ignore the facts that Manuel Quezada easily knocked out Walker in the first round and Banks (who only fought to a draw with Gavern) didn't have too many problems in the process of stopping Walker. Walker is very unpredictable, and I'm not sure his result against Chagaev says a whole lot about Leapai. Leapai was also losing on the cards to Beck, a guy who was past his prime and dominated in every minute of his early stoppage loss to Tony Thompson, which was only a few months before the Leapai bout.razor7 wrote:Chagaev beat Travis Walker in a close 8 round decision in Germany. As Chagaev is based in Germany the close decision would have been very close if you get my drift. I do think Leapai has gotten better, but I still think any top heavyweight beats him without too many problems. Walker and Beck were not top heavyweights when they fought Leapai.
Re: leapai closer
alex needs to fight more regular,he has improved with his last couple i reckon, but if he dosnt get back in the ring soon he will slip back
Re: leapai closer
my guess is that it was more a matter of chagaev thinking that the fight was just a easy keep busy fight, and he just was not mentally ready for a tough fight.
remember ruslan is poised to fight for the world title. i believe he may have been thinking too far ahead.
still, it does show that if u have good power anything is possible.

Re: leapai closer
i see alex is booked to fight in december, keeping active, good stuff from the thornberry team
Re: leapai closer
He is fighting Darnell Wilson, a 5'10"cruiserweight. I really think Alex should be fighting real heavyweights.

id like to see him in with tyson fury in my mind that would be a good fight....
Re: leapai closer
r there regional belts that he could fight for that would help put him up higher in the rankings?
he may not be the most skilled boxer in history, but he'd give plenty of title contenders a bit of concern if he were to face them.
i hope he does get a shot at one of the top fighters. it would be great if he could ko a big scalp.

I agree, he needs to focus on real heavyweights.Brute wrote:He is fighting Darnell Wilson, a 5'10"cruiserweight. I really think Alex should be fighting real heavyweights.
Still, it could be an awesome fight.
Re: leapai closer
most of the real heavyweights round here dont want to fight him as far as i know
Re: leapai closer
caveman,
if he wants to fight for a world title then he needs to go where the heavies r. no point sitting around waiting for them to magically appear in oz.
best to jump in the deep end then never having tried.
no point getting a shot when he is 38yo.

Re: leapai closer
that is a point buster,at the same time you have to be ready if you want to fight the top guys, dunno if alex is ready & to be ready he has to get fights, think he is caught between a rock & a hard place
Re: leapai closer
if he goes overseas he'll have more options to fight guys who r a level down from the top guys.
he is not ready for the real good fighters. at this stage he'd need a very early ko, or they would toy with him later in the fight. thats no way to get high in the rankings because if he does make it up high in the rankings he'll need more experience under his belt or it would spoil his chances of winning if he was very lucky to be given a title shot. he'll just struggle too much imo.

Re: leapai closer
Leapai won on points. What surprised me was that Wilson weighed in at 231.
Another loss for Nader Hamdan. Maybe it is time for him to concentrate on the taxi business. His losses are becoming too frequent. He has been an ornament to Australian boxing and I would hate to see him getting injured.
