Not a chance Pacquiao will go anywhere near Martinez IMO.

As great as Pacman is, I think he would get knocked out if he fought Martinez. Martinez is not only a good puncher who is a natural middleweight but he is also an elite boxer.

KO of the year by far, they both threw big left hands, but Martinez landed first, Williams was out cold.

I thought this would go into the later rounds, i thought that Williams came out too agressive, Martinez is hard to catch and Martinez landed some nice punches in the first on Williams who had his chin to high when inside.

The american commentators kept saying that Williams is fighting the perfect fight! But having seen Martinez fight quite a few times, he loves it when someone is chasing him trying to be aggressive.

I'm so, so happy for Martinez that after years of plying his trade wherever he can he's finally acheiving the recognition his talents deserve. I just hope that given his age he manages to capitalise financially from his time at the top.
I also hope that Williams is OK as he deserves huge plaudits for his willingness to step in the ring with anyone in a bid to prove himself.
I'm fascinated by that final shot, as essentially Martinez was looking past Williams as he threw it - would love to know whether it was deliberate deception in terms of luring Williams with his eyes/body movement to distract him from the bomb he was throwing, or whether it was just a 'hail Mary'?

Martinez does throw punches from awkward angles, he's very good at messing his opponent around, making them get a bit wild, then lands his own punches.

As you say Deserter it great that Martinez is finally getting the credit he deserves.

There is certainly a case for a third fight, despite the brutal early KO.

Of course I wish it had been on regular Sky, but I'm happy to shell out a few quid for that kind of fight.

Cheers for the link. That was brutal! I hope Williams is okay.

I have to say though, I know a lot of people on here like him, but I've watched Williams quite a few times and I just don't get it.

Sergio is some fighter! He is not afraid to get in with anyone. I'm not sure who he can make big, big money against. The punch he hit Williams with was a cracker; he had no chance of getting up.

Really good fight, Martinez is some fighter, I thought he was fighting the wrong fight but then he landed that screamer!! That punch will maybe ruin Williams ge often relied on his chin so may now lose confidence in taking shots! Hopefully not but it could happen. Really good fight again

@Alex, kets hope he hooks up with Manny and starts using those physical advantages. It might not be too late for him

Whats the point being so tall with so much reach if you dont use it? It was always on the cards, didnt expect Martinez to do it though

Adam Smith commentary about Sergio still remains my favourite

Sergio was dishing out a beating to Adrian Stone and Smith said

'whatever happens he wont be invited back to this country'

Unfortnately for Richard Williams he was, and he gave him a terrble beating in the rematch

So so happy he sits on top of the tree. I hope he gets a good fight to cash out on. Nobody is in 160lbs, just full of prospects like Pirog, Nkam, Golovkin etc. Sturm wont fight him, and he hasnt got time to tread water. Maywetaher may as well fight Pacman because at least he has physical advantages over him, Sergio would kick his ass

MASSIVE ko. I'd love to see him get a fight with Pacquiao, Mayweather or even Cotto. I don't think Bob Arum is gonna godown that road though and my prediction is Mayweather won't be in the ring next year unless it's with Pacquiao.

You're right Jeff, but Martinez has clearly just kept on improving leaps and bounds. I remember watching him when he lost to Margarito but look at their differing fortunes now...
