I liked the Mexico City vs Memphis fight a lot...Good job by Braulio and Ortega specially and was surprised by Hiracheta winning. I didn't go to the World Trade Center because the tickets were not available to sale but would all be given freely by TDN (where I saw the fight) and I had to cross the World's 2nd biggest city to go for the ticket (would take some 3 hours), go back home (other 3 hours) and then go to the arena (another hour).

I hope for the next fights the tickets are able to be sold or I'll be so f.u.c.k.i.n.g. angry.

Beacuse even on a 47-47 the judge needs to say who won for him...There are no ties in amateur boxing.
Except this is NOT amateur boxing, it is professional boxing.

How much money does each winner get per fight.. How in the world can the WSB make any $ - or come close to breaking even. I heard the fights in Miami and LA will count as professional bouts - is this still the case. I really dont see how it could not count as a pro fight. Imagine a boxer has 20 or so WSB bouts - would he then be allowed to "officially" turn pro have a debut and fight someone with no fights making his debut. What commission would allow that.

Depends but I think it may be $5000-$15000 per fight. I think some have a certain total salary they pull plus the per fight money. The WSB is making money off sponsors and advertising. IMG is partnered with AIBA for the WSB and they are the one of the largest global sports and entertainment companies in the world. VME is just one company that has rights to show some of the fights (or do we still call these bouts since they are technically still retaining their amateur status? Forget that, what I saw this weekend were fights. lol.) and VME is broadcast in 77% of all hispanic homes (Dishnetwork and DTV). That's just one station, who knows about what they do locally to promote and generate ad revenue/sponsorships. I'm sure it would be easy to tie WSB into other things that IMG has already in place for clients. Think about the other stations in other countries and you have a millions of viewers. There are many large companies that want to get in front of that audience.

I actually enjoyed what I saw this weekend. It was a mash of amateur and pro boxing. It was a very active bout like amateurs but they were definitely trying to crack each other. I think that unlike amateur boxing where many boxers know each other and there is definite comraderie inside and outside the ring, this weekends Memphis vs. Mexico City definitely got heated. There was not a lot of love in the ring. You can def tell the age difference in the physicality of some of the boxers the Americans faced. They were strong. The altitude played a big time factor in my opinion. Denver is 5,280 ft above sea level. Colorado Springs is 6,035 but Mexico City is 7,500 to 12,800 ft!!! Wow, I haven't spoken to anyone but that has to be tough for your first 5 rounder.

All the U.S. boxers get paid a base salary of at least $25,000 per year plus bonuses for competing and more for winning fights. Some commissions might allow what DC described. Memphis moved its bouts to MS because the commission there is more relaxed with their rules. This is pro boxing and most commissions will count these bouts as part of the boxers' pro records.

The altitude played a role, but so did the fact that the Memphis team was only together for a few weeks before the competition. Some WSB teams in other countries had been training together for months which was the original plan for the U.S. teams but lack of money caused a delay in training. The Memphis team should have trained for a week or more in a mountain trainiing camp of at least 6,000 ft in altitude to get ready for Mexico City, but again that costs money. I hope the LA team learned from Memphis' experience and they get some altitude training in prior to going to Mexico City. The Miami team needs to prepare for it as well even if that means taking an early flight to Mexico City to adjust. If they have an off week they could train there for over a week to get somewhat acclimated.

None of the issues with altitude should be anything new to experienced boxers and coaches in the U.S. with the USA national championships being held in Colorado Springs. It is just a matter of being prepared for it and now with 5 round bouts it will be tougher.

I agree but man some of our guys were dead. Javonta's fight was crazy. He was damn near chokin the guy. He had nothing left for last two rounds. I didn't really see a bond with the corner either. . . I figured they didn't spend a lot of time together before hand.
