Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
Shocked and amazed that the board are stopping some of Audleys purse (or advising Hayemaker to do so), they're setting a BIG precedent for all fights under their control.
Audleys tactics of trying to take Haye late were justifiable IMO, so I think it's very harsh

It takes more than being fit and being able to look after yourself to make it a fair match. Did Greaves land more punches than Audley?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:The Kenna match was dreadful and I said so in my report. Really terrible and he should pack it in. His paper record is very deceptive and he's kidding people with it.gobbles wrote:.What's more, it wasn't even the worst mismatch on the card. Whoever at the Board approved those disgraceful matches featuring Johnny Greaves and Colin Kenna on the bill should be strung up.
I couldn't believe the Boxing News report claiming the crowd liked Greaves's antics, which were essentially to hold his hand up and call his opponent a wanker. The crowd booes Greaves throughout and after the fight too. Whereas Kenna was so overweight, he looked like he had just been dragged out of the pub.
Both were a truly appalling spectacle for British boxing.
I don't think the Greaves fight was a mismatch - Greaves, unlike Kenna, is fit and can look after himself. He was never going to do anything but at least he wasn't steamrollered. The crowd were on his side at the start but he overdid it, especially with clipping the lad round the ear at the end which was totally unnecessary. He was rightly booed at the end.
Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
Oh, don't get me wrong, it wasn't much of a 'match', agreed, for sure. But he did better than Audley. In fact, I suspect he would have done better against Haye than Audley too. And he certainly did far better than Kenna.gobbles wrote:It takes more than being fit and being able to look after yourself to make it a fair match. If the board didn't want what happened to happen they shouldn't have sanctioned the fight.
On Bunce's Boxing Hour, Robert Smith said:
“Audley, as far as I was concerned was an undefeated European champion. It doesn’t matter how he won the European championship.”
What a deep thinker. I am glad we have such intelligent, incisive minds protecting our sport from harm.

On Ringside, Adam Booth put Harrison's lack of effectiveness down to Haye's tactics so, by implication, Hayemaker believe Audley tried but was unable to do anything. It's Hayemaker's money, they promoted the show, so if they believe Audley tried, they should pay the man. The Board should keep their noses out of this. Harrison played a large part in making that show a financial success and Hayemaker, I'm sure, appreciate that. The Board, on the other hand, did absolutely nothing to sell the show. No way should a penny of Harrison's purse find its way into the Board's hands.

Adam was hardly going to say "Audley didn't fight cause it was pre-arranged for him to fall in the 3rd".Glyn Leach wrote:On Ringside, Adam Booth put Harrison's lack of effectiveness down to Haye's tactics so, by implication, Hayemaker believe Audley tried but was unable to do anything. Although I do agree with your post as a whole. Just that I don't think Adam is going to slag off Harrison all the much, cause it looks bad on Haye. He's trying to (bless him) promote Haye as being on a level playing field to the Klitchsko's. He's never going to say anything other than state it was Haye's brilliance (brilliance at what I'm still flummoxed) - brilliant executions of feints!
Ultimately though, the fights been arranged and sanctioned and Harrison wasn't DQ'd (although "warned" to start fighting) - so they haven't got a leg to stand on really and should keep their noses out of it. Only when a DQ occurs should a fighter risk losing their person and really the BBBoC had an equally terrible effort by Danny Williams recently in a title fight. That was arguably worst than this non-show.

Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
Obviously Stu, we know that. Thing is, Booth said it. End of, really. Unless Adam wants to stand up and say 'I lied', which is pretty unlikely, then he has told the world he (Hayemaker) believes Harrison's effort was negated by Haye's (and his) tactics which, by implication, says that the show's promoters believe Harrison tried. No reason for Hayemaker not to pay him, then is there.stujones wrote:Glyn Leach wrote:Adam was hardly going to say "Audley didn't fight cause it was pre-arranged for him to fall in the 3rd".

Pay the man in full.
Incidents like this will pose more questions than answers.
If the occassion wasn't as grand as it was then the board wouldnt even look twice at this.

Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
The only reason the board are looking into withdrawing some of Audley's purse is because of public pressure. Last Saturday was one of the few occasions when boxing was thrust into the mainstream sporting spotlight and when the events in the ring do more harm than good in terms of attracting new fans, then the board will feel they have to be seen to be taking action. They will be wanting to reassure the general public that if they stump up their hard-earned cash to watch a fight again then the BBBoC are not going to alow another farce like this to happen.

Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
By taking money off Audley they won't be able to guarantee anything in future fights involving other fighters though, will they. The only way the Board can guarantee anything about a fight, and even then it could never be a cast iron guarantee, is by making sure that fights under their jurisdiction are evenly matched and not sanctioning them in the first place if they aren't. But you're right, this is a PR exercise, it gives the appearance of them being in control of the situation — which, of course, they never can be once the opening bell has rung.SweetLikeSugar wrote:The only reason the board are looking into withdrawing some of Audley's purse is because of public pressure. Spot on. They need to take a long, hard look at themselves; instead they have decided to meet up to consider whether or not Audley Harrison has committed an offence - the charge: being Audley Harrison. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.Glyn Leach wrote:The only way the Board can guarantee anything about a fight, and even then it could never be a cast iron guarantee, is by making sure that fights under their jurisdiction are evenly matched and not sanctioning them in the first place if they aren't.

Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
Will there be remifications if Hayemaker elect to pay him in full? Who gets this cash, Hayemaker? Is this unprecendented in the UK? I've never heard a purse withdrawal being worded quite so informally. What is "some" for kick off?
On a similar note, what about the prizefighter pull outs to pretect their record/ranking. If I remember rightly, Herbie Hide got medical clearance then pulled out. Now he did get paid for making the semi final, should he though? He was one of the major reasons people went to the venue or chose to watch it on TV? What a big dissapointment that was, should he have lost "some" of his purse.

But that isnt a similar scenario at all...stujones wrote:...On a similar note, what about the prizefighter pull outs to pretect their record/ranking. Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
does the board even have the power to do this? surely the purses are purely the promoters' concern? all the BBBofC should be worried about is that the rules of boxing were followed and that they got paid their sanctioning fee.
if they do this it sets a dangerous precedent. if the fight had been a barnstormer I'm pretty sure the board wouldn't have paid Harrison a bonus so they can't have it the other way.

You could say both didn't give it their all, you can say both left the punters feeling short changed. Different scenario's but both left the public feeling angry.liamlion wrote:But that isnt a similar scenario at all...stujones wrote:...On a similar note, what about the prizefighter pull outs to pretect their record/ranking. I was asking a question.

Hide didnt give it his all?? Jesus, of course he did! And he got a nasty cut for his efforts. He won his fight (which was also over 3 rounds - just out of interest how many punches did Hide land in those 3 rounds??)stujones wrote:You could say both didn't give it their all, you can say both left the punters feeling short changed. I was asking a question.
There was absolutely nothing to be gained from fighting on, except Hide's horrendous cut being inevitably targetted by his next round opponent and the very real prospect of the fight being stopped.

I think that cut more than justifies Hide's withdrawal from the semi-final of Prizefighter.

Showtime weren't ordered to withhold some of Dirrels purse.
Re: Board tell Hayemaker not to pay Audley in full
Well I think that the board are a bunch of wankers who consistantly , sanction mismatches, therefore not doing there job properly and, bringing the sport into disrepute by allowing said fights to happen , i call for them all to be sacked and replaced by a couple of blokes down my local who i feel would do a better job .
mY REASONING FOR THEM TOP BE SACKED, IS I FEEL BY CALLING FOR IT, I HAVE HAS MUCH AUTHORITY TO DO SO, HAS THEY HAVE CALLING FOR hARRISON NOT TO GET PAID
So all in all since i don't have the authority NEITHER do they , so they should just shut the fack up and stop GRANDSTANDING.
