Why not? We get to hunt our own food, don't have to pay for eff all.
And what are you going to hunt in Liverpool? Do you know how to look after meat killed on an animal to preserve it to eat? How are you even going to cook the meat? Just start a fire in your house? Gas companies wouldn't exist, you wouldn't have electric either. How will you get anywhere when you run out of petrol? What about when your clothes are fucked, can you make more?

he is an ex soldier i reckon you should have picked on someone else on this one. :OhYes:

You don't need petrol ya daft git, also it's not so much that way of life but more about the violent way we go about achieving it is what attracts me, bringing down the government would be immense.

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

And 'tho sometimes to his neighbours
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew whereof he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For old Bob has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a Soldier died today.

He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
Tho a Soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state.
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young.
But the passing of a Soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Someone who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?

The politician’s stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary Soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, though small.

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier--
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end?

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier's part,
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honour
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

What would that achieve? Should we lock up all Muslims when we attack and occupy Muslim nations?

no it isn't a fact...it's a tired old cliche with no real basis in truth.

and the sort of crap that has led to us not recognising islamists for what they are....fascists.

exactly what 'freedom' is al-qaeda or the taliban fighting for? the freedom to rape their wives?? to jail people for shaving? to throw acid in littles girls faces for daring to be educated? to ban women from showing their faces?

you need to wake the f**k up my friend. there ARE moral certaintites in this life...don't believe the post colonial introspective hype.

if the terrorists of which you speak were the RA then you'd have a point but al-qaeda are something else entirely.
Completely disagree. Freedom is defined in many different ways. One example might be the freedom to pray 5 times a day without the risk of being bombed by US forces etc

Let cultures regulate themselves, its not your job to force other people into your way of life or your set of values. There are many morally corrupt things that Westerners do, we are not without fault and you my friend could do with remembering that.

We live in a democracy and its essential that people have freedom of speech. People need to be careful not to act like Fascists in condemning people with differing views.
There's no such thing as a freedom fighter, what we call "freedom fighters" usually fight to rid themselves of an ideology so they can install another.

The only true form of freedom is known as Anarchy, but Anarchists for some reason are considered to be bad people, personally I don't see a problem with people wanting to live the way they want to without being controlled by politics and religion, it is the way we used to live after all.
Totally disagree. My definition of Freedom fighters are indigenous people, down-trodden and violated by a stronger, oppressive and imperialist regime and who attempt to resist this foreign regime in order to regain what they once had, e.g. their freedom, their way of life.

I don't think people would give a fornicate to be honest. Some people don't want to celebrate/observe Remembrance day and oppose it (for their own reasons)? What's the problem with that? It's called free speech? Burning Poppies is not a good idea (IMO), there are other ways of doing it.

Your not being very civil. :shame:
Do I care about remembrance day? No I don't, because they didn't fight for my freedom. They fought to keep the likes of me oppressed.
Did I ever protest against Remembrance day? No, because I don't care about it.
Would I be disrespectfull and do something like burn poppies? No, I wouldn't.

I went to the Easter 1916 rising celebrations in Dublin in 2006 (they fought for my freedom). Some friends of mine didn't agree with it. No problem with me, they were entitled to their opinion (freespeech!).

They probably would have because the Irish are Nationalists and Socialists which is err...what Germany was back in those days as well as Spain and Italy, France also had a lot of Nationalists and Socialists as well which is why they were so easily overwhelmed, too many traitors. Britain currently is also becoming increasingly overwhelmed by Nationalists and Socialists.

at the risk of starting something...

the original intent of the Poppy Appeal was to commemorate the fallen of 1914-18... which was ostensibly fought for the 'rights of small nations' but of course not Ireland, no matter how many Irish volunteers died.

Some of the veterans of that war were employed in Ireland, known amongst other things as Auxies or Black and Tans, and they were responsible for a fcukin' lot of awful things. So I would say that the commemoration of 1914-18 does impact on the historical treatment of the Irish War of Independence.
