Jack Welsh funeral - and well done to Bob Arum

Post by dondada »

Message received from boxing writer Kevin Iole via the Boxing Press Coalition:

"Long-time boxing writer Jack Welsh, who died on April 24 in his Las
Vegas apartment, will be buried on Friday at the Southern Nevada
Veterans Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV.

Jack will be buried with a full military honor guard. A Marine
chaplain, Marvin Gant, will officiate.

For those who don't know, the coroner listed Jack's cause of death as
a heart attack. There was confusion about his age, but he was 80.

Military records show he was born April 5, 1925. He was a corporal in
the Marine Corps 1943-1946 (don't have exact dates) and received an
honorable discharge.

Many thanks to Bob Arum, who has paid all outstanding expenses not
covered by the military. The most significant is the cost of the casket.
Thanks to everybody who has helped and/or expressed concern for Jack.
On behalf of Jack and his family, I know that is deeply appreciated."

Yes that's a real nice gesture by Arum, well done to him. I know that Jack Welsh had not been well of late and it will be a shame that we don't get his "Las Vegas Beat" column anymore in Boxing Monthly.

R.I.P. Jack
