Boxing yesterday in Southampton

Post by ourkid1984 »

Another good card by Simon Williamson with some entertaining bouts.

Highlights for me was

Joel McCintyre winning on points in his debut in a close contest against Elvis something (didn't hear most of the away opponents names)

Wayne Goodard winning on points in dominating fashion with some hard body shots

Darryl Still looking better and better everytime winning on points

Matty Tew against the ever entertaining Johhny Greaves, Tew looking good for his win

Disappointments were

Less fights then advertised

Jonathan Fry losing against a right joker who was trying to be Nasseem Hammend, falling over all the time yet still getting the win

Jon Fernades has looked good in previous fights but looked one paced and struggled to hit with any clean shots only winning as his opponent was only looking to defend.

Overall a good show and looking forward to the next one they put on especially with some of the fighters starting to pick up good looking records.

In my opinion doing mortal kombat style punches and missing with them does not equate to effective aggression nor did he show good defence so how could fry be judged the loser when he was at least trying to box even if he was a bit limited.

combat style punches or not ,at least he threw some, you dont get points for following an opponent around the ring. Perhaps thats what the ref thought. Not slagging the lad, maybe just a bad night.
