Who were these chief sportswriters et al you were giving out about in the editorial! I bet I can guess (and I agree totally with your sentiments!)

Listen my man, I go all over the fecking place, to big shows and small (though not as often as I used to, granted). For the Ruiz fight, hardly any of the fellas to whom Glyn refers showed up - no story, you see? You get the lads from the nationals who cover boxing - Ron Lewis, Jeff Powell, Kevin Mitchell, Gareth Davies, Pat Sheehan, Nick Parkinson etc - but when there's a 'big' fight, the general sports journos (i.e. football writers who occasionally turn their hands to turn up and they know absolutely f*ck all.

I was going to do a 'bits and bobs' piece from ringside about it. Some silly c*nt wrote down 'Dave Perrez' instead of Dave Parris; another had written that it was for the WBO title, etc.

I knew about 20% of those in the press section. We need the sport to be more mainstream but it's dangerous in the hands of silly buggers who know nowt.

totally agree Ian, reading some of the pieces in the rags i pick things up all the time and i wouldn't say I'm the best to pick up mistakes. they should do what Buncy suggested in a BM many moons ago and a newspaper give a guy a small column to cover the domestic and European fights and the papers wouldn't be so unprepared when a 'big' fight happens.

yeah guillermo jones was a lucky one.

although he subsequently failed a drugs test so it didn't matter.

jones & sellars were the 2 best he boxed during his title reign.

not much to write home about.

carl thompson deserved a rematch.

although i blame warren for being a stubborn old goat on that one.

Jones went on to do very well, and Sellers absolutely blasted Carl Thompson, which showed his quality and punching power.I think Johnny beat some very good fighters in his time. He also got top side of Jirov in sparring as well...there was a reason why Jirov didn't fight him when the fight was being mooted :-)

I hope he is serious about getting Froch on Sky.

Really though, Sky need to re-examine their policy of giving contracts to promoters. Instead they should make them bid for TV dates by putting together top quality cards like the Mag 7. If a card is good enough, give it a date..... treat PPV's on their own merit rather than having certain fighters on PPV regardless.

I'm sure the likes of Haye won't run away to the BBC just because Sky get the stick out and start playing hard ball..... because they don't want to know boxing any more!

The dross that was Haye vs Harrison shouldn't be repeated - the main event was gash as predicted, but they need to show the undercard action live. It was a missed opportunity for people to take some interest in the likes of Stuart Hall.... yet we seem to be saying the same thing over and over.

Oi! I'm polishing the next one off by the 8th then into hospital for major life-threatening real man surgery on the 10th (hip replacement, smashed the old one several years ago in New York having fallen out of a cab after an evening on the beer with Bunce, can't remember what fight I was there for) — laid up for six weeks, so I'll be going nowhere this Xmas (which is not to say I won't be getting drunk, probably quite often).

But yes, the issues do come thick and fast at this time of year. Next one will be out 15th Dec, and yes, free calendar again. And no, it won't include any 11 Dec reports, which drives me up the wall. We just can't extend our deadline at that time of year — if we did, it would mean coming out on 22nd Dec, which would be suicidal sales-wise. Gutter but no way around it.

I'd definitely like to know what he has to say about that, for sure, but that's with hindsight. The interview, which was done about a month ago, is about Smith — a specific fight isn't the issue when the man has just been made head of Sky boxing, the most powerful man in boxing not called Barney Francis. The interview is about Smith, his general policy and vision, and I think he explains himself well. Why don't you tweet him, find out about any specific fights or specific issues that may concern you, I'm sure he'll answer. but at the time we spoke to him, that fight wasn't an issue.

I agree, a very good issue out this month.
The jouralism is head and shoulders above whatever can be found on the net.

I was also very excited about Adam Smith becoming boxing boss at Sky.
That can only be good, and I feel it's important that the TV executives that have influence also have passion for the sport.
That is a recipe for success.

I swear i really thought it was. I Really didnt get why you men buy it I thought it was defo a womans mag Ha But now at least that confirms the rumour Glyn leach is Gay Sweatty muscled men !!!
