I don't see why he hasn't boxed anybody British for a voluntary defence nobody knows the lad he is fighting. If he did box somebody British he would get more respect off the British fight fans.

"Magic" Matthew Hatton defends his European welterweight title against Switzerland's unbeaten but untested Roberto Belge tomorrow night in Bolton.
The much-improved Hatton comes off an impressive first defence of the belt, also in Bolton, where he climbed off the floor in the first round against seasoned Ukrainian Yuriy Nuzhnenko and dominated the later rounds with clever movement and quick bursts of punches to win widely on all three scorecards and to take his record to 40-4-2 (15).
The 29-year-old Manchester man is in the form of his life, having lifted the belt against Italy's Gianluca Branco on another clear decision earlier this year. He looks too much for the little-known Belge, who has racked up 25 wins and a draw but was held to that draw in his last outing by someone called Andrei Abramenka of the Belarus. Worse, Belge has stopped only four opponents.
To say that Belge has been carefully matched to date, to say that he is a light-hitter, rank as serious understatements. It is now or never for the 31-year-old challenger, and while he has the boxing ability and the ambition to share the early rounds with Hatton, class and experience should tell down the stretch. Hatton continues his good form with a solid points win.

I think beating a european with a good record whether it's padded or not is better than fighting against someone of possibly greater risk like Watson or Jennings.

You know how Sky will bill it as a dangerous unbeaten, unknown European. It will get people thinking that he has beaten someone really good so the hype machine kicks in. On world ranking systems this will bode better than beating someone like Watson. Hatton will want a world title fight soon and I can see this as being a bigger step in that direction.

On paper it's a decent test but I've just had a look at Belge's record in a bit more depth and it doesn't suggest he's any great shakes.

In his last fight he drew with a guy called Andrei Abramenka who was 14-0-1. This sounds alright until you look at who Abramenka fought against to build his ledger. Before Belge, Abramenka had not fought anyone with a winning record and yet he still got a draw away in Belge's hometown. The cynic in me thinks that Abramenka probably did enough to win.

Hatton blasts Belge in eight rounds imo.

Fudge me, just had a quick gander at the odds and Hatton is as short as 1/25!

I guess the bookies aint falling for Belge's padded record.

Martin Murray continues his ring education with a 12-rounder against Brazil's tough and experienced Carlos Nascimento in Bolton tonight.
Murray, an unbeaten fighter from St Helens, picked up the Commonwealth middleweight belt in his last fight with a unanimous if unspectacular 12-round decision over rugged Aussie Peter Mitrevski Jnr in Bolton in the summer. In truth, 28-year-old Martin looked a work in progress and it is wise to keep him learning before he steps up again.
Enter Nascimento, who was 16-0 when he challenged outstanding Ukrainian southpaw Serhiy Dzinziruk for the WBO light-middleweight title a few years ago in Germany and was stopped in the 11th round, after a gutsy effort. A squat, aggressive, durable fighter, he moved up to middleweight and came back with eight straight wins but was then stopped by hot Polish prospect Pawel Wolak in five rounds in Madison Square Garden last year, since when he has boxed only once, a third-round stoppage win back home.
At 25-2 (21), the 32-year-old Nascimento whacks a bit (in poor company in Brazil) and is sturdy enough to give Murray a good argument without ever really threatening to win. Murray whips in the body punches, off a good jab, as he works his way to a unanimous decision.

For Hatton obviously, for the fans a fight against Watson or Jennings would be better ticket sellers and we also know that a fight with Witter would be great for fans too but to be fair Hatton wants to continue to look good against decent looking international opposition rather than risking looking awful against a British boxer because I've finally realised that for a British boxer to rise high in the rankings and be highly regarded (outside of Britain) they need to fight international opposition instead of fighting British boxers no matter how good they might be.

There has been so many examples where British boxers have received better recognition when beating an international boxer when compared to beating another fellow better Brit.

just looks like a typical Hatton cherry-pick job to me. I mean a Swiss FFS I didn't know they got involved with violence. It's another step on the very, very long, safer way around to a dodgy World title shot, hopefully against somebody who's past it. Good athlete and a strong, hard-working, dedicated boxer is Hatton but for me his career's a bit of a fake one, he doesn't like risks at all and when he does get his ass handed to him on a plate by somebody like Watson he just does an interview and says he's better than Watson and just had an off night.

Matthew Hatton is a total PLODDER! Hopeless and padded is being nice to this guy! It'll go to points in a typical Hatton snoozer

He is totally protected and one dimensional - havent seen him in a good fight - im sure he is a nice guy outside the ring but he could box eggs or sell raffle tickets! :TU:
