Turkey on Thanksgiving and Fresh Ham or Spiral Ham on Christmas. My wife is of Italian decent so with her family there is always a macaroni dish thrown in. Lasagna or manicotti is a family fave here. I usually do the macaroni as a leftovers meal for a few days. I like Turkey but not everyday.
New years we try to fish. Lobster, flounder and shrimp kind of stuff.
We are Thankful we are able to have such items this time of year.

If you missed the Jets Game- a few notes.
First Lady of Mexico (I didnt get her name) did the honors of the coin toss.No kidding here.
After she handed the coin to the ref-I swear she said " Menudo Con Pate at her place for all afterwards" if the Jets win.
As usual, the Jets showed little in the first half in which they racked up foolish penalties after each other. Bengals 7 Jets 3 at half.
Sanchez not connecting again with receivers.
Jets defense is awesome. "T.O. Sucks" roar from crowd throughout game.
2nd half-Sanchez again brings out his alter ego and starts connecting for a nice drive ending in TD pass to Holmes.
Game Hilites- BRAD SMITH saves the day.
Brad a 50 yard run from scrimmage for TD followed shortly by 89 yd kickoff return for TD in which he lost a shoe on the 40 yard line during his run back. 200 yd game for him.

Jets seem to play to the level of their opponents-no matter if their opponents are 2-6 or 7-2.
This is worrisome. Next up- In 11 days- Jets at New England on Mon. nite football which will decide men from boys.

Sounds like you guys all had a nice Thanksgiving. Randy congrats on your daughter getting VIP treatment for fights. Sounds like a great ringside experience. And your daughter Meranda's kitchen in the picture looks big and set up to looklike a restaurant-very nice.

Okay guys- time to head out and watch Roseann put up the Christmas lights on the house.I check to see if their level and hung right.
I must get her a new ladder-some of the rungs are broken on the one we have now.
Later tonight she will go out and cut down a nice fir pine tree and trim to put up in the house.
I know the sun goes down early this time a year but I know she wants to try to cut wood for the fireplace. Nights up here in the North get kinda cool now.
She is working really hard for that Xmas shed she is getting.

Charlie, speaking of T.O, can you imagine someone like Bum Philips or Tom Landry as coach with all his shenanigans, he would either have to quit the team or the coach would resign.

Rick, Jets got their entire reputation on the line with NE next week.
Brady is looking good on offense but NE defense is suspect. Gonna be interesting. NFL ordered top teams to send out invoices for their respective playoff games next week.

I remember the LA RAMS well Rick. They had some decent teams with Roman Gabriel throwing the ball. Of course with out cable TV showing many games every week- we had to read about the westcoast stars or wait to see if the Jets or Giants played them on TV.

I remember well Daryl LaMonica with Raiders and that teams "bad boys" reputation. I dont know if that was when they were in LA then though-or just Oakland.
The "Heidi-Bowl" Game
is still a sticking point with us Jets fans. Nov 1968- In Oakland,Jets leading with a little over a minute left in game. NBC cuts away to show movie "Heidi" figuring the Jets will wrap it up.
Raiders scored 2 touchdowns in that 65 seconds after broadcast was terminated here in NY and Raiders win. We were stunned to say the least, plus the TV backlash.
At least this year, Jets are getting back a little retribution, after all this time, by winning some impossible games in the last minute.

I lived in Phoenix between 1999-2002. At the time, I was on hiatus from the film business, just worked with boxers AZ.
However, in 1976, I was in Tempe filming "A Star IS Born", and in the 80's we filmed "Murphy's Romance" in Florence, Az. which is kinda between Phoenix & Tucson.

I agree. Today so many teams always seem to have 1 or 2 guys who are sheet stirrers.
The Jets had their share of thorns. Keyshawn Johnson was a cancer and went packing To Tampa Bay to end his career quietly. The list is out there but sometimes I wonder
if these players are trying to be a catalyst for their team to get worked up on for the big games. Alot of things are unsaid about teams behind closed doors- but I do agree that some coaches mantra is "my way or the highway" :box:
Buddy Ryan (Rex's dad) was one you could put on that list you have, too. Probably Ditka also.
Who's your team "Hammer" ?

Charlie, when the Raiders came to L.A. they had a 40-year-old QB, Jim Plunkett, and a rookie from USC, Marcus Allen.
First year here the old QB and the young running back brought L.A. our only Super Bowl win.
My two all-time favorite NFL players are QB Joe Montana, and Marcus Allen. When they were both "over-the-hill" they played well together for Kansas City, and I became a Chiefs fan until they had retired.

For now I hope the Jets get past New England. As you say, they play to the level of their opponents. They must step up big time this coming week. Thanks for the coverage of yesterday's game.

Rick speaking of Montana, he was deff the best QB of my generation, but I am a traditionalist, and I never like to see a player who made his mark with one team play for another, can you imagine Larry Bird playing for a team other than the Celtics, or ''magic'' playing for anyone other than the Laker's, I can't.

A little bored today, I actually took the time to review the "Tale of the Tape" for tomorrow night's Froch-Abraham match.
As I looked at both men pictured, the thought occured to me that . . .
"it ain't the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog".
This especially so with these two fistic question marks. I've got plans manana, but I'm sure I'l catch up on a replay.
I'd prefer reviewing the Ray "Windmill" White vs. Jimmy Dupree match that Don Fraser promoted in 1971 at the Santa Monica Civic. :OhYes:

I forgot about that Rick. Thanks for jarring my memory on that Super Bowl win for you guys. Plunkett and Allen -Heisman trophy winners. Made a spectacular match-up.
A little boxing info mixed in. Heisman trophy has been awarded by NYC's Downtown Athletic Club for sometime now.The Downtown Athletic Club is a tall bldg about 50 stories high and of art-deco style. It stood on West Street just a block from the north border of where the World trade Center Stood.
Starting in 1976- Athletic Chairman Joseph Ponte along with a committee
decided to honor Boxers(worldwide) with the "Rocky Marciano Award" -A Champion in the Ring, and A Champion in Life. Also awarded along with the Rocky Marciano award
those evenings (held in late Nov. of each year) was 2 awards for "Boxing Greats of the Ring". On those evenings attended by many celebrities and boxing greats of the past would attend. In its 2nd year-the Club honored my father with its "Boxing Greats Award" along with Coley Wallace. The Rocky Marciano award was issued to Jersey Joe Walcott that night.
Approx 1,000 attendees were present each year. The evening started off with boxing celebrities meeting on the 5th floor Cocktail Hour Room with the Media for interviews. An hour later, dinner would be served to assigned tables on two floors that made up the Heisman Rooms. The walls are all lined with paintings done of each recipient of the Heisman trophy Winners of the past. My dad always had a table of ten. He was very good friends throughout the years of The New York Jets.
He attended their practices on Long Island when they were there. He was friends with owners, coaches and staff and knew all the players.
Each year we had 3-4 Jet players come along to this dinner. Richard Todd, Greg Buttle, Dan Alexander just to name a few of that time period to sit with us and other of my dads friends.
After dinner we went upstairs to huge gym with ring laid out and ringside seating. 10 Amateur fights made up of the military academies best fighters put on 3 Rd fights .
Many were collegiate national champions. Halfway through card they gave out awards in ring with the two boxing greats honorees doing a planned exhibition bout.
The Marciano award was issued by members of Rocky's family that night in attendance.

Sorry to report that the Downtown Athletic Club was severely damaged in the collapse of Bldg 7 from the WTC disaster and that it could not recover from its losses and went out of business. The Heisman Trophy was always issued from a trust fund that was set-up at its inception and continues to be issued at a huge event held at NYC's Marriott Marquis Hotel in NYC held on live TV each year.
Along with the demise of the Athletic Club-so too was their Rocky Marciano Award and evening.

My father with Coley Wallace receiving their Downtown Athletic Club "Boxing Great Award" in Nov. 1977 The painting is done by the same artist who paints the Heisman Trophy winners.

Rocky Marciano Awards recipients up to 1985:
76- Carmen Basilio 1981 Billy Conn
77 Jersey Joe Walcott 1982 Alexis Arguello
78- Floyd Patterson 1983 Gene Fullmer
1979- Tony Zale 1984 Muhammed Ali
1980 Willie Pep 1985 Jose Torres
Lost track after 1986- see if I can find out.

After my father got his award in 1977 he was given an honorary membership to the club that allowed him to attend all events there henceforth. We never missed a year and many of the photos that are posted onhis thread I made are from the various years.

Charlie you asked me the other day who my favorite team was, I really don't have one but I really enjoyed the 1985 Chicago bears team, in my opinion the most dominate team I ever saw in football. :TU:
