Ward vs Bika ...spoiler.

Post by whiskey »

I tell you what, when your that dirty you make someone like Sakio Bika look like an angel, then something is definitely corrupt. The hometown homie got caught bang to rights from so many angles and the American crew wouldnt touch on it.

At one point, the showtime slow-motion shows a big, deliberate elbow smash into Bika's face and the commentator say's "That was a deliberate elbow - but I absolutely love Andre Ward." :witzend:

All he did was was grab Bika before frog marching him to the ropes and then smashing in with the elbow.

His other approach was to duck under, then leap under and upwards with the head, before grappling and waiting for the ref to split them up.

This 'butter wouldn't melt' angle outside then ropes masks a dirty mofo inside it. He does nothing but land the forearm and the head on people - and the commentary team are so far up Ward's ass it's disgusting.

Yea, i watched that elbow a good many times on slowmo afterwards, it was pretty sickening coming from a guy who likes to harp on about christianity.

I've said it before & will say it again: someone needs to wind one up & let the pudendum have it right in the nuts when Ward does that.

Why did these two fight. I see it listed in the super6 standings, but as a non tournament bout.It totally slipped under my radar.

Really getting tired of Wards dirty fighting and not getting called out for it by the refs or at least the announcers. He must have stuck his forearm-elbow into Bika a dozen times. Then when the announcers finally called him out on the one they had to stess that it was just retaliation for Bika doing likewise. Also Gus Johnson is an appaling play by play guy.

Hershman wanted to move forward with 4 fighters after Dirrell and Kessler withdrew.

But Ward waved his contract in his face, demanding his 3rd fight / payday in Oakland as he was a dead cert for the final.

i didn't like Ward in that fight at all........i only caught rounds 9 to 12.........then again Bika's no angel, or at least he wasn't the only other time i saw him which was against Calzaghe. Just looked to clinch at every opportunity.....the ref was crap too, pushing Bika around and generally pro Ward I thought.

The kid can do it all. To classify him as just a dirty fighter is a bit harsh. He's a very good fighter and he'll be able to get through Abraham and then whoever he meets in the final. Would love to see him in with Bute.

p.s. Just because he's a christian doesnt mean he has to act like an angel at all times. Its boxing and its his job. People have been thinking he is soft since he first turned pro. I make that 23 opponents who have found out he has got a ruthless streak

Ward is a protected cheat, good fighter yep but if he has another Super Six fighting Oakland the rest of the fighters should threaten to jump ship.

True, Gabriel Heinz is a devout god botherer and he cannot leap into the air without elbowing at least five people. However, the two Wards, Andre and Dirrell, are massively overrated.
dirrell is the most overrated fighter in memory.

ward IS very talented tho...when he lets his combinations go he looks great....but his is a cheating fornicate at the same time...i wanna see him in with froch (in a neutral venue) because froch would not let him get away with any of that bollocks.

I wouldn't call either Ward or Dirrell overrated. A lot of people have been speaking very highly of Carl Froch for giving Abraham a bit of a hammering but Dirrell's performance against Abraham was almost as impressive. Dirrell's losing effort against Carl also showed that he has the ability to mix it with the divisions elite.

Ward IS the elite at the moment in my opinion. Just because he chucked a couple of elbows against Bika and doesn't like to get bullied around shouldn't take away from his abilities as a boxer. Felix Trinidad used to slug people in the pills when the going got tough in his fights. Didn't see many people effing and jeffing about him being a dirty fighter. Anyway, Bika is far from a saint himself.

not true, IMO, Tito was known for it. even Jim Lampley managed to pick it up. so i think it's safe to say it was pretty damn obvious to the rest of us :TU:

why!??!

because he beat kessler?!?!

don't get it.....

i like ward...his fouling is beginning to get annoying but i think he's full of potential...but right now that's all it is....he beat kessler.

that's about it for elite opposition.

froch is the elite sm right now....better record than ward or bute...if you wanna disagree with me then post an argument for their resumes eh!

cos he's an englishman who enjoys an honest scrap he gets denigrated by septics who only wanna ever applaud their guys and the partisan JC fans who don’t seem to realise that frochs good performances don’t detract from Joes record.

It's becoming quite clear that we have different opinions on this matter. If you are going by resume then there is not really much to argue about because Carl has the better slate. However, when he loses to a guy that Ward beat I fail to see how that makes you think he is the divisions #1. Maybe Ward hasn't went on a run featuring Pascal, Taylor, Abraham and Dirrell but just because he hasn't fought them doesn't mean he wouldn't hand them their teeth on a plate.

But I'm not basing my opinion on records. From watching their fights I just think Ward is the better fighter plain and simple. Believe me, I would love nothing more than for Carl to get a hold of Ward and prove me very very wrong, but as it stand I think Ward beats him.

That must be a first in boxing history then..... both fighters coming in following defeats and the winner moves up to be classified as the man in the devision.

Mikkel Kessler aint retired yet... and Mikkel was not the man anyway.

The man is 1-1 for fights in 2010 and yet its a "travesty of justice" that he is not in the running for Sports Personality of the year.

so we're talkin records vs performances then?

hmm....i admit that ward looked awesome against kessler...

but that still doesn't make him the elite....to be that you need a decent resume at the top level in your chosen division....somethihg froch has and ward doesn't.

Typical Bika fight, scrappy and dirty (from both sides). Thought the scorecards were generous to Ward, but he desreved the win

haha - oh check my archive. I've been one of Joe's harshest critics on this forum - and WTF does Joe have to do with who should be ranked as the man now. :witzend: He's retired and I for one don't crave for him to return.
