I'm stunned......

Post by LeedsLad »

First of all I'd like to congratulate Carl Froch on an absolutely brilliant victory tonight against Arthur Abraham.

I'd also like to say that I fancied him to get the job done, but in a real tear up - not the exhibition that we've just seen. Boxing, moving, punches in bunches..... even some defence!

Five fights at world class, 4-1 in those and has KO wins over all his domestic challengers.

He's building a real career for himself away from the spotlight.

How does he compare with other recent British boxers in terms of accomplishments..... he's surely got to be on a par with the likes of Hatton and Calzaghe now?

Yeah stunning performance from Froch! Since the fight was made I secretly harboured the suspicion that Froch was was going to KO Abraham in 7-8 as I didnt believe he would be intimidated by AA and that is half the battle won against Abraham but I was really surprised at the slick boxing Carl displayed, stuck with his plan till the end showing the right amount of caution whilst attacking at will. Great performance.

AA came up against a natural Super Middleweight and someone that was prepared to fight and it all went a bit tits up for him. It's okay standing hiding behind a peek-a-boo guard allowing Froch to tee off, but Froch did exactly the right thing and just teed off on it and eventually it wore AA down. I don't think AA was expecting to come up against Froch's iron will and because he doesn't really use lateral movement either he didn't have an answer.

The size issue and the lack of lateral movement did for AA tonight but take nothing away from Froch because this was still a perfectly loseable fight but he didn't do this. His balls, his fitness, his concentration, his tactics were all absolutely spot on tonight it was a great win for him. Well deserved too after the hell he went thru versus Kess and a few others....

Superb performance by Carl, but he has to beat Ward and Bute if he is going to be considered next to Calzaghe. I think sadly that probably Ward and deffinetly Bute woould beat him

I agree regarding Ward and haven't seen enough of Bute to comment - I'd really like to see Bute take on someone who could give us a realistic benchmark in terms of his position relative to his peers.
The other thing about Froch that deserves the utmost respect is his willingness to fight abroad - he really is a throw-back in terms of his 'take on all-comers' mentality.

I think the most impressive aspect was the way he stuck to his gameplan. Froch was in total command and the temptation to step in an finish off his man must have been massive. Instead of doing a Billy Conn he kept at it and put on one of the best performances by a British boxer in years.

On a side note, I watched the fight with my wife and my neice- very much casual fans. They were highly impressed by Froch (although they didn't like the lovely Rachel) and kept asking why he wasn't on SKY/ITV if it was such a big fight. Froch has real crossover potential and it's a scandal that he is not getting the audience he deserves.

Froch and his team manufactured an excellent gameplan and it was very well executed. I must admit I thought Abraham would beat him either by KO or via a close points decision. I thought Abraham's defeat to Dirrell would have been a kick up the behind for him and I expected him to come out and and be busy in the opening rounds before letting that big right hand go in the second half of the fight. Froch didn't allow him to do this so kudos to him and his team.

It's a pity the team left Rachael Cordingleys muzzle back in Nottingham.

Frochs skills were too much for Abraham, so he didn`t need to fight in a fashion as what he has against Pascal, Taylor, Dirrel and Kessler. These guys were better skilled than Froch, so he had to bully them somewhat.

I think he can put on a similar performance against Johnson. It will be a harder fight for sure. But Froch will have too much for the old man.
But against Ward ... Wards skill set are another level up from Kessler and Dirrels. Ward will make Froch look crude and clumsy.

I personally thought that was the most mature performance of Carl Froch's career. He fought much better than I expected and he stuck to a gameplan. Hats off to the man for a fabulous performance.

didn't see it. Wrong that it was not on ITV/BBC/Sky... apparently it was a masrterclass over a world class opponnent.

Is Carl one of the UK's most underrated fighters ever????????????

Remember he's beaten Pascal, Direll, Abraham
