The WBO belt. You can see the magazine reads, "February, 1996" in fine print. Which strap did Bowe own at that time?sevenofgeorge wrote:In this photo:

There you go.

Definitely not unless they have changed the design in recent times. It looks more like a wrestling belt to me.sg1985 wrote:Doesn't look like a WBO belt I've ever seen.Goodnight, Irene wrote:The WBO belt. You can see the magazine reads, "February, 1996" in fine print. Re: What belt is Riddick Bowe hoisting?
Belt designs do change from time-to-time.
The only belt Bowe held in his possession at the time of this publication was the WBO strap. The only other explanation, possibly, is the magazine simply had him pose with a belt, for the promotional angle of the picture, & the strap was therefore just a generic one they had lying about the place.
As said though, Bowe's only title at the time of publication was the WBO trinket (Still a trinket in my eyes, in fact).

Then the only other explanation is the one I posited. It's just a photo with a generic belt for the mag cover.sg1985 wrote:This is Hamed in '96 post Said Lawal.
This is Bowe with his WBO belt. Guess it's an old photo.
Bowe held no other title in 1996.
Re: What belt is Riddick Bowe hoisting?
Look fellas, if Irene says it is the WBO belt then that should be good enough.
Don't get her angry. You won't like her when she's angry.

I was going to say, credit to you for your response in the Belt-Man-Public thread, since that was a rare instance of you actually contributing something to a thread I (or anyone, to a lesser extent) have created. It wasn't much, but it was a worthwhile change from your focus being me, & your long pursuit to fight me for criticising Muhammad AliDarling wrote:Look fellas, if Irene says it is the WBO belt then that should be good enough.

I see the above, in the end, is something you're much more comfortable with. Now tell us, Darling, what is your typical, standard contribution to BOTP, again? Not a single thread I can remember through two aliases & a good few years (as your insults show, though, you lack imagination, so this is understandable) &, what, a five or six line post, usually giving us the most generic takes on the board? Conservative suits you, mind, given even some of those sympathetic to you have conceded your knowledge of the sport is depressingly limited.
Maybe you & DBerry can find each other & smash keyboards to vent your frustration in perfect sync as I lambast & lampoon the pair of you? I know between his complete lack of wit, & your borderline-psychotic defense of all things Ali, you two have cried many a tear in your bid to fight me over posts on an internet messageboard (this thought still makes me laugh, no matter how many times I type it. Oh, the stupidity
Collie, I think you're great. I like you. Do you like me? :)

I forgot that Bowe was briefly a WBO Champion. I would hardly call it a trinket title, though everyone is entitled to their opinion. The WBA Title is way more of a joke title these days with all that Super, World, Ordinary and Interim Champ BS, while the WBO World Title has become way more credible with the calibre of champions in several divisions. Anyway, it does look rather like a wrestling belt at any rate. Why did he vacate the WBO Title anyway?

You provide me with much mirth.
Your blowhard wannabe tough guy act is hilarious. That "I used to work the doors" line is an absolute classic.
Plus you are a worthy replacement as resident boxing historian now Bazza won't come out to play anymore.
I do think you should stop whining to the mods though. If anyone really hates you, it's them. At least that's what I believe from the PMs they send me.

Why on this very page there is a marvelous post started by my good self some years previously that is still going strong. (Unlike that rubbish you churn out like "Sliding Greats" and "Build me a Man!")
Don't be bitter. Every now and then you know I'll toss you a bone for being such a faithful dog and for carrying that torch for me all these years.

It's a little late to be playing the, "You're amusing to me," card after you've repeatedly chased the prospect of a fist-fight with another member, Collie. Kind of tipping your hand, mateDarling wrote:I don't dislike you, Irene.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Collie, I think you're great. I like you. Do you like me? :)

What sort of person talks like that?
One that doesn't get out much I'd say.
Re: What belt is Riddick Bowe hoisting?
I think the picture is from the 3rd Holyfield fight and probably is a home-made belt declaring him the no. 1 heavyweight in the world; the thought being that this is the belt Tyson should be going after, not the ABC belts the other guys were wearing.

I think you're right. I remember that outfit, at any rate.wouter wrote:I think the picture is from the 3rd Holyfield fight and probably is a home-made belt declaring him the no. 1 heavyweight in the world; the thought being that this is the belt Tyson should be going after, not the ABC belts the other guys were wearing.
It's 100% not any sort of WBO belt, or even the WBC continental americas or whatever.
