Witters Next Fight?

Any news on Witters next fight? And anyone know hows his hand healing? I've heard Maggee mumbled - does anyone else think thats a backward step - I suppose would be semi-dangerous with rounds under his belt. Whats happening with Branco for the WBC eliminator? I don't think he wants to be in the same ring as Witter. Then theres the EBU mandatory. Witter needs to get a move on though hes already 31.

Boxrec says - Andreas Kotelnik in July - anyone seen him fight? Wasn't he a decent AM? Whats to be expected from him?

Kotelnik won silver in Sydney, and he has a win over Kindelan in 1999.

I want to see Witter on more Golden Boy cards in the States. He's going to get himself a big fight far sooner fighting over there, more's the pity.

Couldn't agree more - beating guys like Kotelnik isn't going to enhance his reputation and fighting unknown quantities is dangerous. He's knocked out enough stiffs in Europe and has a good win over N'Dou so he needs to start clamouring for a big fight again.

I'd love it if he could get a on a decent Stateside card and knockout a top 5-15 contender. My choice would be Brano - what I've seen of him suggests he's tailormade for Witter's unorthedox style. Plus he's got a good WBC ranking and put up a fair showing against Gatti so Witter could raise a few eyebrows over the pond with a spectacular KO. Which he needs to do because he can't seem to win over the UK public!!!

The latter two on Mr Nutrition's list would be good, especially Corely - whoose stock went up after losing to Cotto.

I saw Branco's last fight on Eurosport, he looked average that night. Infact, Holdsworth had him behind at the time of the stoppage - although momentum was going to Branco.

Personally, I'd love to see Branco kicked out of the WBC rankings: He dropped out of a Witter fight with a crappy excuse, and has beaten nobody since losing his 'title' shot against Gatti. Why he's still up there is beyond me.

I wouldn't mind Witter taking him on, but only because I think Junior would demolish him, which is probably the only way to get the WBC to drop him down the rankings.

Kotelnik, by all accounts, is a decent fighter. And personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Witter in against a guy hungry to win: I still have my doubts about Witter's stamina and defence, although I am massively impressed with his firepower. For 5 rounds against N'Dou, he looked awesome.

But surely the route for Witter lies in the states? Kotelnik may well be a better fighter than, say, an old Jesse James Leija. But only one of those names is known in the U.S., therefore that's the fight that leads to a title shot. Witter needs to fight soon, perhaps try and knock someone like Corely over on a Golden Boy show. If I was promoting him, I'd be doing my best to move him into a WBA shot. It's not like Harris can pick and choose his opponents, unlike the other names at 140lb's. Witter sparking 'Chip Shop', not long after he troubled Cotto would put his name in the frame.

In fact, the more I think about it, the more Corely makes sense. He's respected, he's not that old/shot, he's coming off a showing where he hurt the man considered the new star at the weight, and he's not known as a knock-over job. All that aside, though, I'd expect Witter to drop and stop him inside 6 these days. And look good doing it.

Mind you, that sounds good to me at 2 o'clock, after a night on the pop. I imagine major promoters won't see things the same way I do right now.......

Kotelnik seems like a good fight for Witter. After that, I'd hope he can end up on HBO Latino against a decent Mexican light welterweight. Arturo Morua or Ernesto Zepeda would be good choices. So would be the winner of this Friday's fight between Tomas Barrientes and Rogelio Castenada.

the last thing witter needs is a potentially rugged fight against one of these talentless, but tough and skilled 'grafter' european fighters.

I've never seen him, but I imagine kotelnik as being a light welterweight Felix Sturm. If he is, Witter may have unprecedented problems, and it's not worth the bother, at all. Why does he need to be involved with this type of fighter? I just hope witter can bash him up and move on.
