He has been on a good run, so he keeps on climbing the rankings. If he wasn't any good then he would be losing to the guys he has been beating.damianhucker1 wrote:while i dont disagree , i just think it seems wrong to see Matthew Hatton ranked so highly , but hes on a good run .

I had Watson in the list a few months ago and people were saying he shouldn't be in the rankings.Gazmac81 wrote:Bit annoying Seeing Mathew Hatton so high knowing that there are guys in Britain who would and have beat him.
I think Matthew Hatton would have a good chance at beating any British Welterweight. I would favour him over any of them except, maybe, for Kell Brook.
Re: British Top 30 P4P December 2010
where the hells paul smith?
Re: British Top 30 P4P December 2010
He certianly has improved but i honestly favour the following against him from Britain
He Lifts his Right elbow up when he jabs with left FFS , i know hes not going to take step back and fight someone domestic but i do feel its a bit of a sham the way hes getting the breaks.
Kell Brook (would be too slick and powerful )
Craig Watson ( already beat him convincinly )
Junior Witter ( if he has anything left )
Mark Thompson ( would be too strong )
Bradley Pryce ( Maybe a bit faded but still good enough to beat him )
Kevin Mcintyre ( can accuse me of being Biast as its my Bro but reckon would be able to box hattons head of on Form )
Just my opinion and i wish him all the best but reckon hes manouvered very well away from British Scene and wont be back,

He will enter if he beats James DeGale this month.BIGMARK wrote:Paul Smith?

His loss to Watson was over 2 1/2 years ago, I think he has improved since then. He has been fighting better opposition than everyone ranked below him, so he has to receive credit for that.TheGoods wrote:Brook would butcher Hatton. Matthew's on a great run and was an impressive stoppage winner last time out but Craig Watson punched the lugs off him. If he's domestic P4P top 10 material then I'm Raymond Van Barneveld.
Brook might beat Hatton if they fought, but his opposition level has been poor.

Re: British Top 30 P4P December 2010
I'm not sure how Abraham can be called a dominant world champion. How many top ten fighters did he face in his entire championship reign.... Miranda and thats about it. Off course that was a controvesial fight.Lenny wrote:Abraham was a fairly dominant champion at middleweight (okay, who failed to get fights with Pavlik and Strum) beating everyone he'd faced and stopping most of them who had stepped up, scored a heavy knockout over the still useful Jermain Taylor and lost a controversial fight against Dirrell. He was favourite in most peoples eyes going into the Froch fight.Horse wrote:I will consider the possibility, but I think Froch will most likely keep the No. 1 spot. Maidana hasn't proven himself as much as Abraham has, so I don't consider a win over him to be as good as a win against Abraham.stujones wrote:Will Khan be moving up to #1 if he outboxes Maidana?
I personally think Maidana should be considered a better win than Abraham given that Abraham lost his previous fight and hasn't recorded a win over a natural Super Middleweight.
Maidana has won a up and downer against prospect Victor Ortiz when the young fighter decided he'd had enough, lost a close one to the solid if unspectacular Kotelnik and struggled against a washed up Corley. And that's it! Most people think it might be a bit of a walk in the park for Khan
Not sure how you can consider a win over Maidana to be better Stu?
You cannot exactly call anyone a dominant anything if they haven't defended against more than 1 top ten opponent. Where was Pavlik, Taylor (as a Middle), Martinez, Castilejo, Sylvester, Karmazin, Mundine etc.
Maidana is a proper Light Welter and a fearsome puncher. The reason Khan is a warm favourite is because of the improvement he has made. Khan I think would start as favourite against any Light Welter (including Bradley)... Roy Jones was favourite all his Super Middle title fights - doesn't mean to say ALL his opponents were average.

So you are essentially saying you fancy Brook to beat Hatton but RATE Hatton above Kell? That's pretty confusing.Horse wrote:His loss to Watson was over2 1/2 years ago, I think he has improved since then. Not really, these lists are based on achievements more than talent and he thinks Hatton has faced the better opponents, which is probably correct. I'd have Burns above Munroe personally seeing as he won his title fight, and Rendall wasn't really competitive but it's a good list.TheGoods wrote:So you are essentially saying you fancy Brook to beat Hatton but RATE Hatton above Kell? matthew hatton and paul smith should be top 30 if not top 20. and i think there both shit.

It depends on the manner of victory and the results of other fights, but both would most likely enter between 21st and 25th.wrimc wrote:Incidentally where would Paul Smith fit in if he were to beat Degale Dec 11th and vice versa?

He isn't ranked in the top 30, as I don't think he has done enough to earn a place yet.boxer111 wrote:where the hells paul smith?

Why is Ricky Burns below 2 people who are not world champions (officially in Cleverly's case).
Some of the lower placings are a bit odd with European champions below British champions

Smith should at least be 20-30, and Foster is quite low down considering his title...
Froch is quite rightly number one....
Not a bad top three that is it, we should get behind them

Do you think all of those fighters would have beaten all of Hatton's recent opponents?Gazmac81 wrote:He certianly has improved but i honestly favour the following against him from Britain

Munroe was competitive in the first half of the fight, but then the champion showed his class. If Burns successfully defends his title this month then he will overtake Munroe.Scottrf wrote:I'd have Burns above Munroe personally seeing as he won his title fight, and Rendall wasn't really competitive but it's a good list.

Most of the European champions are level at best with the British one at their weight.... given that most of the best Euros don't bother with it anymore it's not the hardest belt to win.
Re: British Top 30 P4P December 2010
Agree to disagree, I thought from about the second round on there was only one clear winner, and Nishioka never looked troubled. Wasn't it the 4th Munroe was hanging on? Scored it 119-109, and while Nishioka was a good champion, Burns' win was impressive enough for him to be above. All opinions though.Horse wrote:Munroe was competitive in the first half of the fight, but then the champion showed his class. To be honest yes i dont see why not
The one Where HAtton won the title he was decent but that last opponet was Terrible
i really think its poor watching him on Friday Fight Night Live
im not saying he shouldnt be in your ranklings above these guys but i reckon if any of them fought him he would be dropping down your ranking Rapidly.

Although I think Paul Smith has a decent case for inclusion in the top 30, I don't think his record is good enough to claim a top 20 place.robpalmer135 wrote:matthew hatton and paul smith should be top 30 if not top 20. and i think there both shit.
Re: British Top 30 P4P December 2010
Burns had not been fighting very good opposition before the Martinez fight, so I didn't think he should go above Cleverly and Munroe who had been on good runs with their European titles.ourkid1984 wrote:Why is Ricky Burns below 2 people who are not world champions (officially in Cleverly's case).
The only British champions (that don't also hold the European title) above at least one European champion are: Lindsay, Barker, Booth and Rees.ourkid1984 wrote:Some of the lower placings are a bit odd with European champions below British champions
Rees is only above Casey who won the vacant European title by beating Hyland. Beating Hyland is good, but it isn't any better than a lot of British title defences. Rees is a former WBA champion who has recently won PrizeFighter and won the British title.
Lindsay, Booth and Barker are also ranked above Foster who won his European title by beating Kirakosyan, which was a good win. However, Kirakosyan was 36 years old, and Foster didn't have a good win before that since he beat Simpson 4 1/2 years earlier, so I didn't think he should enter too highly in the rakings considering his lack of good wins.
Re: British Top 30 P4P December 2010
In April, the month after Smith won his last fight, the bottom 6 of the rankings looked like this:Captain Hook wrote:Smith should at least be 20-30, and Foster is quite low down considering his title...
Froch is quite rightly number one....
Not a bad top three that is it, we should get behind them
25. (22.) Ola Afolabi
26. (23.) John Simpson
27. (24.) Sam Sexton
28. (27.) Ian Napa
29. (29.) Ajose Olusegan
30. (30.) Lee Haskins
I didn't think that Smith's win against Dodson was good enough for him to overtake these fighters and push Haskins out of the rankings. Others might disagree with me, but I don't think including Smith in the top 30 is the only reasonable option.
Foster is in the top 20 which is more or less where most European champions get ranked after they first win the title. Considering Foster's lack of good wins in recent years, I don't think his current ranking is unfair.
