Congratulations to Gerry Storey on winning a highly prestigious Laureus Sports award last week. He won the 2005, Sport for Good award.
Here is what the Laureus website says about the award and Gerry, it was on Channel 5 last night and it was a very emotional initial segment by Barry McGuigan. Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Barry McGuigan presented the award - both were better on the camera than the Klitschko's were on Eurovision.

The Laureus Sport for Good Award was presented by two of the greatest fighters the world has ever seen. Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Barry McGuigan dominated their respective divisions for years.
The Laureus Sport for Good Award was presented to Northern Ireland's Gerry Storey who has spent a lifetime training boxers of all denominations at the Holy Family Gymnasium in Belfast.
The Laureus Sport For Good Award recognises the amazing achievements of men and women who have used sport to transform their communities.
For centuries, the people of Ireland have been divided by religion, politics and - until recently in the North - by barbed wire, bombs and bullets. In the middle of it all, on the streets of Belfast one boxing gym stood as a lone sanctuary from the violence.
The head coach, a survivor of four separate bombing attempts, carried on teaching children on both sides of the paramilitary divide.... and he did it in the same gym, at the same time.
Laureus celebrate his remarkable achievement, for he was able to do what centuries of political and religious groups could not - UNITE people......ironically enough, by fighting.

On the show, it sounded that Gerry trained McGuigan as an amateur - would that be true. Certainly McGuigan seemed to know the gym and the attitude of the gym very well.
