Premier Sports.

Post by stujones »

Anyone with any ideas the next live boxing on this channel. I thought they might have shown the Adamek fight this weekend or maybe the Mundine fight today.

Seems to have gone quiet - as a late subscriber I aint complaining so far cause I love the repeat action.

Exactly what I was pointing out to someone or other when they got all excited about the vaguely worded Premier press release about their having signed a deal with HBO - a deal could be for one HBO fight or every HBO fight. Maybe it was just for one fight because there's been sod all since. Hope not, but seeing is believing - and we're not seeing very much at all for our money at the moment.

Great news, I'm an Atlas fan and I feel EPSN/HBO go far more into the technical side than Sky. Right now, Premier Sports just don't have enough big fights which is understandable because it would be a big outlay for what I presume is a small subscriber base.

Actually, that raises another point - What's the point in having ESPN anymore? Premier getting FNF from ESPN is robbing Peter to pay Paul as far as the punter is concerned. I'll keep ESPN for the UFC, but there doesn't appear to be any point from a boxing perspective. Not good.

Yeah, pretty pointless. I literally only watch boxing, sometimes wonder why I bother with my SKY/HD sub at times.

Other than their ESPN Classic historical boxing programmes; can't remember the last time I watched a live fight on there. Seems strange that ESPN would stop showing their own programme to sell it to another channel.

Not sure to be honest. I'm on Virgin Media, with Sky Sports upgrade, I have ESPN, ESPN Classic and ESPN America and don't pay extra for those specifically, they might fall under another package though.

I think it's great news and they've got that world series of boxing and by the sound of the statement they will continue to get other fights as well.

I don't think people can blame Premier for picking up on something that ESPN in this country are not bothering with thats ESPN's fault and I say fair play to Premier.

I was wondering whether it was the same FNF as what's been on ESPN.

Fair play to the company, I say. One might not be able to afford Sky Sports/SBO and this is decent value, as far as I'm concerned.

About time but better late than never. Though I will state now that I trust any Setanta-related company as far as I can throw them. Premier will have to do well, consistently and for a good few years before I lose that feeling of suspicion. What TV companies say and what they actually do are very different things, Setanta proved that, and Premier is a Setanta subsidiary. The sins of the fathers, as far as I'm concerned.

Don't get the FNF thing though, that's a pretty clear message to British boxing fans from ESPN. If they're prepared to sell their one show to another UK broadcaster, then they're pretty much bowing out of boxing in the UK as far as I can see. No doubt there will be some press release saying otherwise at some stage, but actions speak louder than words.

The way I see it is that Setanta failed because of trying to compete with Sky as far as football goes and by the look of it they still show boxing regularly in Ireland so I think they still keep to their promises.

I'd like Premier to show more British boxing but to at least they are trying and in one way I think it's good because too often we try and rely on information about US boxers from other sources that are often unrealible and biased, at least with this we will be guarenteed a look for ourselves how good or bad some of these American fighters are.

On the subject of not trusting Premier to keep to their promises all I can say is they have delivered on their promises and more so far so can't complain. This with the promise of more big fight cards a month I think they're doing a good job and if they go bust and we lose it then it was good while it lasted. I mean could we ever trust BBC or ITV to show boxing again especially as they both dropped it as soon as it became convient and had a resonable excuse and when they do that it's not like you can stop paying your tv licence because you're not getting what you wanted at least with Premier you can do that and like Iain said it offers good value for money for people who can't afford the full Sky sports package.

This news means that we are getting more boxing on tv then ever beofre and regardless of whether its free or not it should be celebrated for as long as it lasts.

This is terrible news. As others refer to ESPN used to show all this live and in HD. Now it is on another poxy channel with terrible picture quality. Can you even Sky + Premier broadcasts?

I'm an addict so I will end up getting it but I'm far from happy about it.

I see Pascal v Hopkins is on Primetime for £9.95.

Why they failed doesn't matter mate, nor am I talking about Setanta in Ireland - I was not discussing Ireland and I don't get the impression anyone else was, either. Perhaps I'm wrong.

The Scottish Premier League, and possibly David Haye, might have a different viewpoint regarding Setanta - the defunct British version, which is what I am talking about - and promises.

You are correct, any boxing on TV is good. And if Premier do exactly as I said earlier, show it consistently and over a good few years, no one will be happier than me. But I won't trust them until that point and that's my prerogative as a paying punter. If others want, for whatever reason, to ignore the Setanta connection, fair enough. But I choose not to. I choose to wait and see.

Premier Sports should revive the once Great 'Bunceys Boxing Hour', it can't cost much to make and it'd make the channel a must for UK boxing fans.............. somebody make it so!

Seconded Chambers. It costs sod all to make compared to most shows and it would go a long way to establishing Premier's cred as a boxing channel.
