Paddy Ward new Irish pro heavyweight.

Post by Broc »

Is this the same Paddy Ward from Galway that beat Barney McGinley in a bareknuckle fight that was broadcast on a TV show afterwards?
If so, I am glad because he was a good smart boxer in that fight and I'd say that he could make a decent pro.

What impressed me most was his attitude, he just came in without a word, no bullshit, McGinley was not disrespectful either, but he does talk too much at times.
Ward just showed up, no big crowd of backers, controlled the fght from the start, won well, got back into his car and drove home, he didnt even crack a smile after winning.

I dont think that he had much amateur experience, thats unless he's much younger than he looks and had plenty of under age fights.
The thing is that with the name Paddy Ward, you could be looking at the record of 5 fighters from Tuam Boxing club in the same year, none of which being him.

I wonder if he is related to Dennis Ward who was a tough amateur boxer in Galway.

Saw Paddy ward last night in Tallaght (Dublin). He didn't impress. He has absolutely no stamina whatsoever. He had a good first round. After that he was gassed out. He lost 39-37 to an average Latvain. He made Tyson Fury look like a marathon runner (stamina wise).

The Irish lightning looked sharp last night. The only thing that worried me was that he got tagged a bit going forward ( in my uneducated boxing opinion). He keeps his gloves a bit low at times (mayweather style). He was cut (small) early on over the left eye. He started the fight a bit slow but threw some savage combinations in the later rounds. He really wanted to take Volodins out in the last round, but the Latvian had a good chin on him and refused to go down. Volodins was on the canvas, but it was deemed a slip. Points (ref score card)

Anthony Fitzgerald UD over Hammond. Workmanlike performance
Paddy McDonagh beat over Kukulis. Snoozefest (ref score card)
Christina McMahon had a hard victory over very game Teucheva. No knockdown, but was a slugfest. I enjoyed that fight
Gavin Prunty won. French dudes corner trew in the towel.Aiello was taking alot of punishment and not fighting back. Aiello not much good.
JJ McDonagh beat Sirjatovs on point.
Didn't catch the earlier fights.

Big Bang Casey had the flu (official he had the flu, he just had a cold IMO) so he didn't fight :verysad: . He did however spent the whole night signing autographs and posing for photos with the fans. Got My Limerick GAA jersey signed by Big Band, so I was happy enough :TU:

The place wasn't full, but the place was buzzing for Byrne's fight. An enjoyable night was had. The girlfriend got he photo taken with Mickey Vann, so she was happy too. She loves watching Micky dance around the ring :D
