Just watched it. Pretty entertaining fights. Now that its on Verses it might have a better chance. Alltitude was def a factor, everybody on Memphis was dead tired.

The VME station shows the fights in their entirety. Editing boxing will never feel right to me. They need to show the whole bout and if they want to only show 4, then do that. Everyone was gassed. Twice as high as Colorado Springs--that was a huge handicap.T Duquette wrote:Just watched it. Pretty entertaining fights. Now that its on Verses it might have a better chance. Re: WSB will be televised on versus in the USA
the US' corrupted boxing commissions, i.e. CA, FL, and TN threw in a monkey wrench by demanding that the athletes can only compete in their states after obtaining there professional federal ID. The commissions don't recognize it as amateur boxing , therefore the US franchises of the WSB are insisting that the boxers obtain their federal ID and turn pro.NYboxing wrote:Good news - USA outlet for the world series of boxing on the Versus network:

Re: WSB will be televised on versus in the USA
That just means they have to fight elsewhere. I don't think any of the boxers registered as pros as far as I know. I know the TN fights will be in MS now. I'm sure CA will move across state lines and FL too. The whole point of the WSB is to retain amateur status and not have a pro record.ChinChecka wrote:the US' corrupted boxing commissions, i.e. CA, FL, and TN threw in a monkey wrench by demanding that the athletes can only compete in their states after obtaining there professional federal ID. California requires that the WSB L.A. Matadores team register as professional boxers. Sad, but true.I don't think any of the boxers registered as pros as far as I know.
Re: WSB will be televised on versus in the USA
Of course the WSB is professional boxing. Even the WSB website discusses that it is professional boxing but that they will still be able to compete in the Olympics.
From the WSB website's FAQ section.
1) What is WSB and what will it bring to the world of boxing?
Boxing has never benefited from a self-sustaining structure. Aspiring boxers start in grassroots clubs, where the best become sponsored by national federations. Through these federations, boxers can make their way to the pinnacle of the sport of boxing: the World Boxing Championships and the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, moving into the professional ranks has in the past meant giving up the chance to compete for your country in future World Championships and Olympic Games.
The World Series of Boxing (WSB), initiated by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), will be the only professional series in which boxers will retain their Olympic eligibility and federations will receive a return on their investments in boxers. AIBA's vision for the World Series of Boxing is to preserve the best of the new style of professional boxing while removing its negative elements. The WSB will reunite the broader boxing world and its grassroots foundation, provide a bridge between Olympic boxing and professional boxing, and help boxing reclaim its noble position in sport at all levels.

Another example of AIBA stating that the WSB is PROFESSIONAL BOXING comes from the WSB Introduction Brochure's cover:
"INTRODUCING THE WORLD SERIES OF BOXING
A NEW WAY FORWARD FOR AIBA PROFESSIONAL BOXING". (emphasis addes).
"INTRODUCING THE WORLD SERIES OF BOXING
A NEW WAY FORWARD FOR AIBA PROFESSIONAL BOXING". (emphasis addes).

the European, Mexican, and Asian teams are not required to obtain professional licenses. however, CA and FL are requiring boxers representing in the WSB to register as professionals before competing in their state.

Re: WSB will be televised on versus in the USA
I think the problem is that the fighters signed up for WSB not KNOWING that they would have to obtain professional licenses in CA and FL and thus have fights count on their pro records (assuming they will). The WSB probably didn't know either, oversight on their parts. Most of the US fighters believed that since they were retaining amateur status that they were not yet "turning professional."
Assuming these fights in Cali and Fla count on FightFax & boxrec, then it really isn't fair that ONLY those two locations count, and fights in Mexico and Mississippi do not. A fighter could conceivably end up winning his bouts in Mex/MS and losing bouts in FL/CA and his record will not be accurate to his true performance.
But I agree with Dennis, these are professional bouts in every way shape and form, so they should be licensed as professionals and count as professional bouts when fighting under these conditions. When they fight under USABoxing/AIBA regulations, the bouts should not count towards professional records.
Did anyone notice that the Kremlin Bears has fighters who already had sanctioned professional bouts before WSB?
Do those individuals "retain their Olympic eligibility" as well?

Re: WSB will be televised on versus in the USA
The WSB said that boxers who turned pro since the 2008 Olympics were eligible to compete in the WSB and also eligible for the Olympics.

I wonder why none of the fights are recorded in boxrec? I'm surprised none of the boxers pulled out. So you could have boxers compete in the Olympics only to "resume" their pro career with losses on their record. Crazy.boxmel wrote:California requires that the WSB L.A. Yes, but was this known/extended to the USABoxing athletes who wanted to participate?Dennis wrote:The WSB said that boxers who turned pro since the 2008 Olympics were eligible to compete in the WSB and also eligible for the Olympics.

I imagine boxrec editors either don't know yet how to handle these "semi-pro" bouts or are avoiding the decision...DCAmateurBoxing wrote: I wonder why none of the fights are recorded in boxrec? And per my above discussion, why shouldn't the ones in Mexico and Miss. count...
And this is further convoluted by the Trent Rawlins-David Imoesiri result. The FLA commission result is a Majority DRAW.

But there are no draws in amateur boxing right? And not in WSB, so the WSB official had to pick a winner as tiebreak, to decide the team result too, and even though one FLA judge had it for Imoesiri, the ruling when in favor of Rawlins.
So now, WSB has recorded a win on points for Rawlins, and a loss on points for Imoesiri.

Re: WSB will be televised on versus in the USA
In international amateur dual meets, you can have a draw if it is agreed on in the technical meeting beforehand. I've seen it where it was agreed and not agreed.

And you have Egan out 45 days now with the cut he suffered over his eyelid. I know a few boxers that were not drafted who have gotten calls. It may be that the WSB champion will be partially determined by durability.ringsidemike wrote:I imagine boxrec editors either don't know yet how to handle these "semi-pro" bouts or are avoiding the decision...DCAmateurBoxing wrote: I wonder why none of the fights are recorded in boxrec?
