Has beaten Adamek.. Fooled me as well!
Clev New Opponent
Re: Clev New Opponent
Confused me, was sure he hadn't fought Light Heavyweight this year! Wonder if he sells a few extra tickets on the back of that name? Not that Adamek is massive box office!
Re: Clev New Opponent
Apparently, Nathan Cleverly now fights Frenchman Nadjib Mohammedi on the Liverpool show on Saturday, after his original Spanish opponent failed to come to scratch.
The unbeaten Cleverly is going great guns in the light-heavyweight division and must be close to a major world title shot, so these sort of fights are tightrope stuff. Mohammedi holds the EU light-heavyweight title and was out in October against a Belgian, whom he stopped in three rounds. He looks as good a replacement as one can expect with just two days to go, having lost just once in 24 fights: a first-round defeat at the hands of fellow countryman Thierry Karl last year.
It tells you that Mohammedi is no Marcel Cerdan but he has won four on the spin since and picked up the EU belt with a four-round stoppage of Tomas Adamek earlier this year (the Czech pretender). Mohammedi certainly looks like he can whack a bit but that makes him someone who likes to mix it, to get close, and the tall, clever, stiff-hitting Cleverly outboxes him on the way to a later-round stoppage.

I believe Cleverly was likely to be facing Mohammedi for the vacant European title before Mohammedi lost to Karl. I think he is a very good late replacement.

Re: Clev New Opponent
This is a better opponent than the bus driver he was down to face last time.
Wonder how they can get Cleverly such a good opponent at such short notice yet Brook gets another stiff.

Re: Clev New Opponent
Agree he's miles better than Lakatos, but Mohammed is surely handicapped by the fact he only got to know Wednesday, he didnt have a scheduled fight did he?
Re: Clev New Opponent
So now before the fights was made, I had never heard of Macklin's, Brook's and now Clev's opponents?
Opponents who I have heard of?
Is that really too much to ask for fighters on the verge of world-title shots?
God!

There are plenty of good fighters that I haven't heard about that would be good opponents for Macklin, Brook and Cleverly.
Macklin and Brook's opponents are poor, but Cleverly's new opponent is quite good.
Re: Clev New Opponent
If I am honest, Horsey. No I haven't heard of him.
