Charlie Ward
Charlie Ward (Global ID: 161607) was my father-in-law,. He fought in the super featherweight division in NSW in 1946 - 1951.
Re: Charlie Ward
He also won the Heisman Trophy for the best college fottball player of the year, but didn't play professional football. Instead, he played for many seaons with the NY Knicks as a guard in the NBA.

Re: Charlie Ward
charlielived in newcastle in the 50,s ,i saw him fight jimmy hogg in the old stadium, he also worked in the roofing game, i had just started with the firm, we were fixing asbestos roofing in those days, and there were no elevators then,so it was a very get fit job, same with the tiles.he was living out near the lake area at windale, i think the old name was violetown, 6 of the fighters that beat him would hold their own, probably beat any of the fighters in todays bantam ,feather light and welter ranks, between them they won , state , aussie , and empire titles, trevor king should have been a titleholder,he just could not get a look in,charlie ran into some heavy wackers, ford, brown mcdonald, i know a few of the old hands up here that knew charlie,i spoke to one today, he spoke highly of him, i,ll bet you looked after his daughter while he was around, all the bestCharlie's D-I-L wrote:Charlie Ward (Global ID: 161607) was my father-in-law,. Good on you, Patron. I could not see a featherweight boxer from Australia winning a College Gridiron trophy in the USA. Who would want the same prize OJ Simpson won in 1968 anyway?patron wrote:i think zojo may be on another wavelenght brute, i,m still chasing sid prior,s history for you,i am pjcking some old records up on saturday, all the bestBrute wrote:Didn't pick up a Nobel Prize while he was at it, did he?zojo, wrote:He also won the Heisman Trophy for the best college fottball player of the year, but didn't play professional football. Re: Charlie Ward
Yeah, most pugs like a bet. Jeff Fenech's study of Garth Wood's form let him clean up big time on that result.
Their mutual animosity would rule out "Choc" throwing the fight for Jeff's benefit.

Re: Charlie Ward
Jeff has now only got to study how cctv works in a jewlery shop and he can really clean up. ;;-)Brute wrote:Yeah, most pugs like a bet. Jeff Fenech's study of Garth Wood's form let him clean up big time on that result.
