"Former British and European heavyweight boxing champion Matt Skelton was jailed today after a court heard he attempted to pervert the course of justice to avoid speeding fines.

A judge at Cambridge Crown Court gave Skelton a five-month prison term and said the fighter had been "arrogant" and thought himself "above the law".

Skelton, 43, of Wilden, Bedfordshire, admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice three times between November 2006 and August 2008 after his Porsche car - which had a personalised number plate - was clocked speeding.

The court was told that on all three occasions Skelton falsely named "car valet Brian Williams" as the driver and gave at least one false address.

Skelton, who had initially denied any wrongdoing, was arrested after police concluded that there was "no locatable Brian Williams"."

what a complete pisstake....6 months for basically a motoring offence.....he'd have got less if he'd have been noncing.

The sentence is oviously not for a motoring offence. He should have just paid the fine

I haven't mentioned it because it's too much hassle to go into it but I seem to remember he was in trouble one time over re his mrs and another chap?

Have a look at his record though...he did really well for someone who had such basic skills. I liked him as a fighter though he was in some stinkers.

The sentence is oviously not for a motoring offence. He should have just paid the fine

ulitmately that's what it's for...he's been stupid but surely a community service order or a suspended would have sufficed. hardly a danger to the public is he.

Sending somebody to jail for trying to dodge a speeding ticket is ridiculous IMO, if someone is caught doing over 150 mph they rarely get sent to jail and they're a far bigger risk to society than Matt IMO

His attitude stunk more than his in-ring clinching and, in my view, the lesson he is now learning is well warranted.

I took my bike to 170 on the M58 and got fornicate all, the copper just told me to stop being so stupid, I don't see it as a crime though, it's the dawdlers doing 50 who are the danger.

Not saying I agree with the length of the sentence, but I do hate it when people think they are 'above the law' so in that sense I'm not very sympathetic to him.
