Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Can you people read? He didn't get sent down for speeding. He got sent down for doing precisely what some of you are whining about i.e. wasting taxpayers' money. He brazenly, and repeatedly flaunted the law and then attempted to send the authorities on a wild goose chase. Despite the fact the entire population of the town in which he lives time and again saw this not indistinguishable chap in his not indistinguishable vehicle, routing around town without a care in the world. People telling 'a few porkies' results in tens of thousands of wasted man hours each year; man hours that could be better applied in building up decent cases against the 'nonces' everybody appears to be so paranoid about. You could argue that it is people like Skelton who are contributing to keeping the 'nonces round your way' out of jail.

Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
So Gazza drives around four times over the drink drive limit and walks free...... Skelton gets banged up for five months.
Something's not right here.

Skelton isn't a famous footballer. You do know that right? Next you will be saying they would have put Steven Gerrard in jail for the same offense.LeedsLad wrote:So Gazza drives around four times over the drink drive limit and walks free...... Skelton gets banged up for five months.

What is with all the ridiculous comparisons? You are blatantly missing the point and reasoning behing Skelton's sentence. The fact he has been sent down for this should tell you that what is 'not right here' was Skelton's lousy, yet extremely superior attitude.LeedsLad wrote:So Gazza drives around four times over the drink drive limit and walks free...... They were right to punish Skelton for not paying his fines..... but five months, seriously?Moshe_Crescas wrote:What is with all the ridiculous comparisons? Surely a £1000 fine immediately payable would have been adequate and saved the taxpayer a fortune.
Punishment should be appropriate to the crime committed. A man who drink drives should go to prison, be fined and banned from driving for a very long time, if not for life. He could have killed somebody, or caused serious damage to someone's house.

Exactly how I feel, well put wink. Nothing against Skelton personally, but that attitude really sucks, smells of "I'm better than everyone else". To be honest, once wouldn't have bothered me, but three times is taking the piss. Hate that kind of arrogancewinkveron wrote:Not saying I agree with the length of the sentence, but I do hate it when people think they are 'above the law' so in that sense I'm not very sympathetic to him.
Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Apparently Skelton was given a choice of watching Audley Harrison's career set 10 times or go to jail.

To be fair thousands try it on like that from all walks of life, I have heard of many who have took fines for people. Just because he is rich and famous does not automatically mean he is giving it the jonny big potatoes. 200 hours Community service was the answer to this, and a decent fine.Glyn Leach wrote:Exactly how I feel, well put wink. Skelton will be fine in prison. People will be brown-nosing him to pass the time. Yank prisons on the other hand......hurlock wrote:skelton has no previous? i bet he's petrified of a bumming

Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
But he was giving it "jonny big potatoes", consistently over a period spanning a number of years. That's the point. Your "200 hours community service..." amateur sentencing decision is endearing but you are only in possession of the scantest of facts regarding the case and the general conduct of Skelton throughout proceedings, so your input is, ultimately, bereft of insight.carlbcfc wrote:Or somebody from his town?Coco wrote:I reckon this Moshe might be the fella Skelton digged for following his missus about!Moshe_Crescas wrote: What is with all the ridiculous comparisons? You obviously know more than us about this case so would you care to enlighten us? Maybe you are one of the trotters that nailed him, and have come on here to gloat?Moshe_Crescas wrote:But he was giving it "jonny big potatoes", consistently over a period spanning a number of years. Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
You don't need further enlightenment. The judge's decision was properly reasoned. I know it is plastic gangster chic to pardon all but the 'nonces', 'sex cases' and 'rapists' but I'm a tad less leniant.
Oh yes, I don't have much contact with sus scrofa, friend. Goes against the old obvious. So you're on the wrong page with the 'trotters' jibe.

Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Gangster chic or that the £20,000 or so it costs to keep him locked away could be put to better use?
Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Perverting the course of justice is a VERY serious offence. He could have got 5 years. Put it this way if he does the same thing again, he would more than likely get 5 years.Chambers2 wrote:You obviously hold the criminal justice system in different regards to most.Loynesy wrote:He deliberately tried to evade the criminal justice system. How can anyone possibly think that this does not warrant a custodial sentence?
Sending somebody to jail for trying to dodge a speeding ticket is ridiculous IMO, if someone is caught doing over 150 mph they rarely get sent to jail and they're a far bigger risk to society than Matt IMO
When giving details for a motoring offence you are dealing with a court and are effectively under oath.
People should think very very carefully before putting pen to paper on anything.

Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Scott, how much do you think what should've been a total of £120 in fines has already cost the system because of Skelton's repeated perversion of justice? Man hours, court time etc... As I said earlier, people like Skelton --whilst not a 'bad' bloke-- are guilty of wasting more time and 'tax payers' money' than all the paedos, murderers and rapists put together.
Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Dunno, but I think they would get more back from having him give something back through community service?
I've never seen evidence that prison is any kind of deterrent for reoffending.

Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
The minimum sentence for perverting the course of justice is four months, though. So what are you on about community service for?Scottrf wrote:Dunno, but I think they would get more back from having him give something back through community service?

Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Wasn't familiar with the exact charges or minimums (which I don't agree with), was talking in theory. I'm not pretending like it's a black and white issue, I see it as a serious offense. Just not that imprisoning him will have any benefit, except perhaps as an example.Moshe_Crescas wrote:The minimum sentence for perverting the course of justice is four months, though. Re: Skelton banged up for 5 months
Were just pissed of due to the inconsistency of sentencing. A lad I know got 200 hours CS for possession of a loaded firearm. He was nicked in a nightclub to make matter worse.
