'struggled' but only lost once...

:shame:

i'm not saying he's quite in that super 6 bracket but he's no mug...he's a fringe contender imo...

regardless - i've decided - smith to win it in 9.

Tony Quigley calls for Paul Smith rematch
Nov 3 2009
by Nick Peet, Liverpool Echo
Add a commentRecommend 12next
TONY QUIGLEY believes both he and Paul Smith owe it to the fans to get back in the ring again soon and turn in a proper performance.

The former champion admits that he is gutted to have lost his title, but most of all he’s just devastated that the fight was such an anti-climax.

But he maintains that he did more than enough to retain his belt despite being ‘disgusted’ with his performance. The 25-year-old said: “I feel like apologising to all the fans who paid money to see a fight. I think we owe it to them to get back in there and put on a proper fight next time.

“Personally I am disgusted with my performance. I boxed terrible and kept falling in on my shots, which is just not like me.

“I can at least say that I gave it all that I could, I set the pace throughout after all.

Quigley acknowledged Smith as the worthy winner but was damning of his own performance.

"It just didn't happen on the night. My timing and distance was out. My right hands, my left hooks, everything wasn't landing," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"The only thing that was landing was the jabs. It was a poor performance by me but I still gave 100% and gave the crowd a decent fight to watch."

nothing in your quote other than the editorial comment where there's a direct quote from him saying he feels he did enough..

That interview was after the fight. Mine was when he watched it back. I will go with the Liverpool Echo instead of the BBC when it comes to Liverpool fighters.

It can go either way bu hope whatever happens that the ref don't stop it too soon, Degale always seems to get that kind of decision and I don't think it can help him because he's not exactly learning how to go long into a fight.

I don't mind who wins, I like both boxers and for different reasons. Like Smith because of how tough he is and that he's not frightened to fight anyone and is also very down to earth and I like Degale because he's got class and a attitude to get people talking about him, he's one of those fighter that you either love or hate and it's normally them who get the furthest in boxing.

I haven't really seen enough of Smith to form an opinion, Degale certainly isn't the finished article yet though, so hopefully this turns into a bit of a barney.

I like both fighters but my colours are firmly with the Scouser.

I think Degale is quality, and don't mind his cockiness, but I hope Smith does the job tomorrow.

I feel Degale will start off fast, and the commentators will be creaming themselves bigging up an early finish, but, I feel if Smigga can ride out the first few rounds he can turn the fight into a war. I feel like Smigga has the experience and heart to win this type of fight.

Degale will win and win well. Thinking points as he evades Smith's go forward style and hits enough clean shots on the back foot to win rounds and take it from there.

providing smith doesnt suffer another bad cut, experience to win thru,Smith late stoppage.Cum on paul.As i said in an earlier post, a defeat for the cockney gobshite wouldnt be the end, hell learn so much from this fight even when it ends in defeatSmigga can tought it out solid for 12 rounds, he can weather a storm. Can degale? Its ok him saying hes doen the rounds, hes had hard spars, blah blah, not same as fighting, in front of thousands and its going into rounds 9 and up.Lets see how he copes, cant wait for this.Like man against a cocky boy.

IMO Smigga is the only guy out there with the tools to take degale down a peg or two.

On paper i'd fancy degale to take this one - however we've never seen chunky get taken to the trenches he's untested, smith will do this. Degale could just fall apart when the pressure is on and things arent just going his way.

thats how i see it anyway.

when you look at there record's degale stopped healey in rd1 in his 3rd fight a year after he took smith 6 in his 23rd pro fight :o

i dont see it as a carl thompson v haye fight as carl was an ex world champion & an avoided one at that & look where haye is now, degale would have to be real special to clean up 12st imo, saying that the super six are taking it out of some.

i dont want to call this fight, but smith wont get knocked down in a million year's.if degale beat's smith with ease we have a special talent.

This is a bout that is good for boxing. I think that for quite some time Smith was a touch bored with it all. He was up for it in his last 2 Derby fights but they were really physical encounters. I can remember seeing him box; and he really knew what he was doing. he is not just a strong brawler with guts. He has a good boxing brain and has power and technique. Degale is a bit cocky for my liking but is obviously very good. I think Paul smith can win and I imagine (and hope) for a really good clean fight. If Degale does win he will have marked himself out as a gifted fighter who doesn't buckle under pressure; he'd have to be favoured to go all the way.
