Perverting the course of justice is a serious offence and a custodial sentence is to be expected. At the end of the day if its one thing that the courts take seriously its people lying to the police or in court. A custodial sentence is there to act as a deterrent. The threat of jail might not stop robbers taking a chance or prevent gangbangers from knifing someone, but it might think people twice before lying in court.

That's biased thinking based on a speed differential of your choosing. Driving standards are so poor in this country that it's better to have the majority doing 50-odd. Match their speed and they're easier to avoid, with a much lower risk of fatality in the event of a collision. If everyone was tonning-up it'd be a minefield to even nip to the shops.

I fundamentally agree with you - to use your own judgement etc., but there's too much traffic to accomodate a free flow without increasing overall danger. Cohesive herd movement is safer, albeit frustrating.

have a look at what the motoring organisations say....speed cameras are money making machines for the authorities...they don't stop RTA's......swindon abolished theirs over a year ago and accidents have actually gone down.
