Matthew Macklin Lost

Matthew Macklin is a very good fighter but he did lose tonight against Veron who looked to be the stronger man in there; IMO.

Yes. Also, re forum etiquette...if you're going to talk about a fight users might not have seen yet, please include the word 'spoiler' in it, e.g. 'Macklin v Veron - spoiler' :TU:

The judges are shit most of the time. I do think Macklin won though. Varon wasn't consistent.

yes, i had Macklin winning by a couple. I read somewhere Macklin went into the fight suffering from a heavy cold. Anyway no excuse, he really slowed down and was hanging on for dear life at the end so was luck to see the bell. I always said that Barker would beat him and on his last two outings my opinion hasnt changed
I always thought Macklin would beat Barker, but my opinion has changed now. Macklin looked terrible against a poor opponent tonight, and he also looked poor in the first three rounds against his last opponent, who was quite average. In addition, it wasn't too long ago that he struggled with old man Campos.

People might be in for a surprise seeing the fight after reading this thread title though.
Ok; sorry; I should have read up on the etiquette, I apologise.

For me Veron was badly done to; Macklin got beat at his own game. The men at World level will really give it to him. Pirog will be laughing, honestly.

the Judges got it wrong, Matthew was man handled and looked ragged, the scores were silly. Veron won it by a couple of rounds but crept up on Macklin. He won rounds later by hitting Matthew harder earlier if you grasp my point.

Scores were a bit wide but he done enough to win it by a couple. Nowhere near world level on that performance mind.

He might of had an off nite but that was pretty bad. He'll need to step it up big time. The big boys would have a field day wi him. Barker Macklin has to happen.

Veron isnt that bad and has never been stopped so it wasnt a mis-match. I have always liked and followed Macklin but feel he lacks something that Barker has yet cant nail what it is. He has been looking poor of late and although showed some balls tonight to stick it out when it very tough at times. At 6 rounds i thought he was going to get stopped.
Varon has actually been stopped three times, including by the non-puncher Zbik. I like Macklin as well, I think he is an entertaining fighter, but his limitations have become clear to me.

I had it to Macklin by a point he looked lost in the middle rounds, Veron was better than I thought and gave it a good go, really close fight but really poor judging

Draw for me.

Macklin mentioning the likes of Martinez in the build up, then producing that kind of rubbish display, was really disappointing. Martinez would whip him.

Pirog would give him an absolute hiding. I've heard they are looking at that fight for the new year.

Macklin is a very nice kid and did very well to win the European title but Pirog is far, far too strong, powerful and full of craft. He will murder Matthew; Danny Jacobs would ruin Matt; (No disrespect to a decent and talented lad).

He won but he isnt world class, although he seems to think he is. His world rating is flattering, never understood why he is rated so high?

Ok puncher, ok boxer...thats about it. Barker would really be too much for him, in my opinion.

As for Martinez, or even Pirog....

Said for ages macklin is well over-rated talks a good fight and always comes across well in press conferences and interviews..but the top boys in this division would destroy him..BARKER WOULD CHAMPION 2011.
