Smith never looked like winning imo. Degale looked relaxed all the way through that fight.

Impressed with Degale. Boxed excellently and good stoppage by Foster.

He was adifferent class form start to finish but I didnt see him getting stopped until the 9th when Smith was rocked badly on two occassions. He was stopped on his feet and was very disappointed but he was getting badly outclassed all the way.
A great performance from DeGale

a bit premature , smith wont be happy , but he was gonna have to produce something big in the later rounds if he was going to win it

Good stoppage that. There will be those who said it was early, it wasn't, Smith was not in that fight at any point. No point Smith taking any more of a beating.

I think it was a fair stoppage, DeGale had him going a few times that round and I'm content that had it not been stopped he would have put Smith down and stopped him later on. Yes Smith could have fought on at the point of the stoppage but he had been hurt several times earlier in the round so I didn't see any need to see him pancaked which is what a lot of fans like to see.

Drat.. what next for Smith, do we think?

Possibly a European title shot? And no, thats not sarcasm, just an predication based on how things go these days...

Fair stoppage IMO. Second time in that round he was in real trouble.

Amusing seeing comment about radio commentary. That was not a particularly close fight.

No way Groves would stop him.

I hope Smith was well paid. What a pointless voluntary from his point of view. Even if he won, he beat a 'green' fighter

The stoppage wasn't premature. There was no coming back from that for Smith, so Foster saved him from taking more of a beating.

A former Olympic Gold medallist who gets a lot of media exposure. The publicity is worth it. It's about money.

smigga had been shipping hard shots and had nothing coming back, was not the first time he'd been badly hurt either. Was the correct decision.

How do you know? He took the shot and the ref jumped straight in and Smith was fine!!!
Foster could have stopped it during the previous flurry, but he gave Smith a chance to show his head was clear. DeGale then started pummelling Smith.

de gale was a deserving winner , but stoppage was DEFINATELY too early , smith will feel he could have produced more in the latter rounds i suspect , and unless he comes on here saying he had no more to offer then i dont see how anyone can say any different , he was hut but no more than we see week in week out in lower level fights , and ive been having a look if i was ref but wouldnt have stopped it just yet , 5 seconds later my mind my have changed who knows , we dont know if smith may have decided to take a knee or something to recover

Because Smith had lost every round and was showing nothing that would indicate any sort of turn around. The safety of both fighters is paramount. The ref was correct.

Skills pay the bills. I love wathing slick southpaws against dopey orthodox fighters. When Degale didn't shift Smith early I had thoughts of Dirrell Abrhaham but glad he stepped it up in the end.

Where does Paul Smith go from here?

No rematch justification, I guess he could fight Groves but then that wouldnt be easy either
