True... just that the topic (Maidana's power) seems to be the one thing taken for granted...

But yeah, a great fight!

I agree, it did not come across like he wanted a rematch, said something about fighting anyone but I dont think he is keen to take on Khan again.

Or maybe he was THAT pissed off.

No, just covering all angles. The one thing that (going off the commentators) was "set in stone" was Maidana's power.

However, maybe it wasn't as good perhaps as people made out?

For sure, he IS a big hitter, but how much so? Thats the topic.

I think he knows he should have won to be honest - Khan was all over the shop for most of the 10th round - A lot of world class fighters would have finished Khan off in my opinion.

In answer to the question, I think Maidana is very heavy handed, but he lacked a bit of ring generalship when it really mattered, where as Khan had enough about him to keep moving, and even though he was taking some big hits, the movement, glove defence and sound chin just about saw him home.

yes sg. maidana plays the role of the bull naturally. Kotelnik trying that style looked like he didn't even believe in it himself.

Well, that maybe so sg, but the point still remains, that it is rare to see a known banger not finish off a fighter who is teeterng around for 2.30 of a round.

I mean a prime barrera, morales etc would have finished it, but it's only my opinion and I dont wanna take anything away from Khan, he 'fought' brilliantly.

Maidana is a much underrated boxer, in my view. He's not the lumpen slugger people make him out to be. He has better handspeed than you think, a better jab than you think and he's really good at cutting off the ring.

And yes, he does hit hard. It's not from technique, really: it comes from being naturally as strong as an ox. But you don't get a 90% KO ratio for not having power, and it's not as if he's only ever fought bums in Argentina.

He also has an amazing chin, clearly.

i got 110/1 for maidana about an hour before the fight in the 10th round and i only put a pound on it because of maidanas punching power but when he had khan almost finished i was bouncing all over the room haha but in all fairness nothing can be taken away from khan he took some bombs boxed brilliant and showed heart and am pleased he won because i want all the british fighters to take over fed up of not having enough british world champs.......... well done khan

the fight should have been stopped in the 10th though :bag: :witzend: :box: :D :D

Well, at least this shuts up the 'as soon as someone hits him on the chin he will go' brigade.... Who as we see will now change their tune to 'if that had been so and so in the tenth round Khan wouldn't have survived' or 'Maidana could never punch that hard anyway'. Which is crap because the guy is a very tough man, a real handful and very heavy handed. That's a great win for Khan who showed he can survive in a war against a guy who not many have wanted any part of. Khans still only 24 too so he's got plenty of improvement in him. The next two years should be great to see. He will be better for this experience and come back a better fighter. If he can survive Maidanas shotshe can take Alexander and Bradleys and his speed will give them two fits. They are skilful but I don't think they are the finished product either. The 10st division is great at the mo and some good scraps to look forward to. Well done tonight Amir Khan.

It's a very stupid thing to say. Why should it have been stopped? Imagine the outrage if it had been stopped. It wasn't like he couldn't stand, move or defend himself.

My mistake. A few people were saying it last night, and meaning it. :TU:

I dont think he had Ricardo Torres power. But he could hit if allowed to definitely. He put Ortiz over with a great shot after getting off the floor himself.

It only seemed to work when a fighter was coming at him, he struggled to get the power into shots when pressing forward himself against Kotelnik and Khan. He definitely could wack though, when set correctly.

The bodyshots may have taken an edge off his power, but he can certainly punch, he just doesn't turn them over to get as much snap on his shots. Khan tooked up shop and got on his bike too and his durability has matured now, ie its better
