Should/will Amir Khan ever fight Breidis Prescott again?

Post by UpperCrust »

First things first, I think the overwhelming majority of people would admit that were this fight to ever happen again there would only be one winner. Khan has come on leaps as a boxer, would box in and out, and would not allow Prescott the opportunity to land anything. In addition to this we have since seen that Prescott is an extremely limited fighter as Kevin Mitchell's complete outboxing of him showed.

This fight also has no public interest whatsoever with everyone wanting to see him up against up against Alexander, Bradley et al before moving up in weight. (following what I believe will be a very convincing win tomorrow)

However I wonder if Amir would have any desire to avenge his defeat (Lennox Lewis style) and could benefit mentally in any way from crushing the demons from that horror night? Or do you think he has completely moved on from this?

To reiterate, in a financial, public interest and career progression the fight clearly makes no sense at all. My question is solely in terms for Amir's peace of mind and any lingering public doubts.

It's a good point. I wonder if anyone has asked Amir that. Like you say though, with big fights on the horizon I'm sure it won't happen JUST out of a desire for personal revenge. If Prescott had progressed onto the world stage and the fight would mean something then yes, but that hasn't happened, so I doubt it.

I'm sure he would want revenge, but they are in different leagues now and t.v companies say who fights who,if prescott had carried on winning then maybe, but not now.

Thinking if he wins on Saturday that will be the big homecoming at Bolton in the summer. People would pay to see him fight Prescott and he would win easily as Khan is without doubt the most improved fighter in boxing over the past 2 years. An easy win for him and a bumper pay cheque he wont say no and it sets him up for Bradley next year.

No. Khan has moved on and Prescott has gone backwards. The time to avenge his defeat has passed. He's facing a better puncher tonight so that will go some way to dispelling some people's doubts.

Very unlikely that there'll be a rematch at this stage.

Like others have said, Khan has advanced & Prescott is heading in reverse.

The only way I can see it happening is if Khan manages to unify & fancies a bum-of-the-month type voluntary defence & he chooses Prescott for a revenge scenario.

F**k that! He might want to but anyone who looks after him should be telling him to forget all about it...until they're both on the way down.

I just don't see what Khan really has to gain. He's the one that has regrouped, improved and moved on whilst Prescott has gone backwards and achieved nothing of note losing a couple. I don't think the revenge thing really sells in this case as Mitchell already whitewashed him. I mean, did Wlad rematch Ross Purity or Corrie Sanders? And look where he is now.

There have been plenty of boxers that didn't rematch guys that beat them because it didn't make financial sense. I'm sure history is littered with other one hit wonders. Having said that if Maidana blows Khan away tonight maybe he will face Brescott!!

I don't think he needs to from a fans perspective as he has proved himself as a world class fighter and showed he can come back from defeat but if he wants to put his mind to rest then maybe he should beat him to prove a point to himself! I would be surprised if he did fight him again because BP has shown he's far from world class and it was just a good shot by him

Don't think Amir 'Iron Chin' Khan would have too many problems with Prescott now..

It would be an embarassing mis-match now.

If Mitchell can beat Prescott, Khan 2010 would definately punish him and badly.

To be honest, I think Khan's performance tonight serves the same effect (to some degree) that a win over Prescott would serve. Tonight he fought a bigger, harder hitting opponent, and he took some very heavy shots without going down. Prescott now has two defeats on his record, and it is clear he is a limited one hit wonder. I suppose that if Khan took this bout in between big fights there would be no problems, but I don't think he should.
