Betting- De Gale V Groves
Betting- De Gale V Groves
What do you think? Who will the betting markets favour, if the bout happens in the New Year.
Just to be clear, Cateogory 1 is De Gale at 5/6 and not less than 1/2 etc...
Should be clear, I'd say.

De Gale should be a significant favorite.
I'd say the "clear" category at least.

Re: Betting- De Gale V Groves
If I could get Degale at 5/6 I'd pile everything I own on! He'll win easily, different level.
Re: Betting- De Gale V Groves
all the groves fan's have vanished since the anderson fight?
if groves could dig like sutherland it would be 50/50

Re: Betting- De Gale V Groves
Groves can match DeGale for speed and slickness.
Cant say DeGale is a cert to be honest. 50/50 match up imo.

The two meeting now, at this stage in both of their careers, could do a major disservice to what could be a massive, more high class fight further down the line.
Would much rather see it take place when they're both more well rounded/experienced as pro boxers.

Poll don't make sense, NO.3 given that it's impossible to have both guys even money then one or both would have to fall into the 5/6 or worse range therefore putting them in NO.1 or NO.2 in the poll

My gf's old man is on it 8-9 hours a day! Earns a decent living through it too.
He used to run a bookies too and had his own pitch down the local dog track for yonks.
Needless to say his daughter is mad for a bet, which is starting to rub off on me!

Same here. At the start of 2010 i would probably have gone for Groves but you can't fault DeGale at all this yearSteveDow wrote:If I could get Degale at 5/6 I'd pile everything I own on! He'll win easily, different level.
Re: Betting- De Gale V Groves
I can see why people are saying to do the fight later on when they are both bigger fighters but I'd actually make it now. My reasons for this are twofold;
Firstly, I have serious doubts about Groves ability to stay unbeaten in the next year. He was in serious trouble against Anderson and would, in my opinion, struggle against more established domestic super middleweights like Smith and Quigley. If Groves lost to one of these then the fight would lose all interest.
Secondly, DeGale cannot be kept at domestic level for the next year. Groves would be a great crossover fight for him from domestic class into European class. I can't see DeGale wanting to hang around at British level for long, having already beaten the British champion.

Re: Betting- De Gale V Groves
Groves has missed his chance.
Impressed against Adamu, but since then his performances have got worse, and he doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. He was poor in America and getting hit far too easily against Anderson. He has grit but that isn't enough. DeGale has stepped up and proved he is a level above. Classy, fast combinations and had Smith in trouble when he was offloading. 9 fights and he is so well rounded, no troubles defensively inside or at distance. DeGale KO early-mid rounds if they met now.

But Groves/DeGale really could be another Benn/Eubank a few years down the line, if both boxers are handled correctly.
Both have it in them to become world champions. An early defeat to their biggest rival this early on could really derail one of them prospect-wise.
Re: Betting- De Gale V Groves
Exactly. This fight should be put on the burner for 2-3yrs and built when they are both hopefully world champions/challengers..Terrrrry wrote:Oh, for sure.hurlock wrote:Terrrrry wrote:The two meeting now, at this stage in both of their careers, could do a major disservice to what could be a massive, more high class fight further down the line.
