Jones has absoluetly nothing left unless he makes a miraculous recovery then Woods will beat him. He just needs to set a fast pace and keep punching throughout.

Good match for Woods, bad match for Jones.

I once called Jones the ultimate boxing businessman, I really did think he knew his body and he knew the business side of the sport.

Why oh why is he considering fighting at this weight still, he is either dead at the weight or completely shot. Its looking like the latter, in which case he needs to retire.

Jones has a wad load of cash and an HBO contract, why doesn't he just retire instead of becoming a sad shadow of his former self. I can't understand why he wants to carry one, the guy is just going to become a human punching bag to the top guys.

Why not? Have you seen his fight with Johnson? He hardly threw a worthwhile shot and his legs were not there from the start. And there was no snap in any of his work.

He is finished.

EDIT - the only thing he has left is his name!

You wonder why HBO would want to sponsor another RJJ venture really, especially as he's become part of their commentary team. I don't think there can be major mileage in rematches with Johnson or Tarver, they battered him.

Disagree, he is still Roy Jones still a huge name. His loss to Johnson now doesn't look as bad since Johnson has gone on to prove himself the number 1 in the devision. The headlines where that Jones lost to a alphabet belt holder, which now isn't the case.

He also is 1-1 with Tarver and can claim he got caught cold in the rematch. He could also play some personal problem as a reason for his drab performance vs Johnson.

I think he has one title fight left in him before they close the curtain. I'm not saying he will ever win a title - but I think he will get the rematches, should he want them.

If he really wants to fight, then for me the more realistic option for him to have big PPV sales would be to play the weight angle (which is geniunally feasable) and move up and say his last 3 performances were due to weight.

You mean go up to 200lb class or to unlimited? Maybe he has a prayer at 200lb, though Mormeck may be too much for this Roy Jones, but at unlimited he would get battered badly. I would even pick Ruiz to beat him in a rematch.

As for getting caught cold, that was the second round. It mayy work as an excuse for the first round, but by the second, nobody is cold anymore. Nobody would buy it. better just claim personal problems to justify his performance.

I would give Roy a chance agaisnt Woods even now. And if the fight really comes through, the betting houses will have Roy as a favorite. His name still sells. Why should he refuse the fight? Woods didnt do anything in the last meeting with Roy or since to justify Roy being afraid. Roy feels he has Woods number and the money is too good to pass it.
Roy could be wrong, but that is the way he feels: Woods is worth the effort and the money is too good to pass for a fight that is not really dangerous to Roy.
If it were a rematch with Tarver or Johnson, then Roy would be concerned for his health and not take it. But Woods is another matter.

think i'll try to get tickets for this one (like every other man and his dog). Jones looked a shadow of himself in his last two.. well three fights but i still reckon theres a comeback in the offing and a pasting for woods is on the cards. I forsee jones taking a leaf out of hopkins book and simply avoiding woods all night. Woods is punching above his weight and hell good luck to the guy, jones beat him so easily in the first fight that the second will be a simple yet cautious fight. Jones aint daft, he's looking for a couple of easy pay days.

I'd have to say I'm not especially concerned for Jones against Woods, although Clinton will never had a better chance. But fighting Woods for his IBF title is just a means to an end for Roy, to bring a belt and some rehabilitation to the table for rematches with people who would likely knock him out conclusively again. I always thought he was smarter than that.

I think the Ruiz fight ruined Jones, had to loose to much muscle mass in a short time.

I doubt anyone would televise Jones Woods II in the UK

Doubt very much that ITV will stump up enough cash for Jones at this early stage into their latest venture into Boxing

NO NO AND NO STU!!! This is exactly why he should stay retired!!! He was outhustled and sparked by a guy who had to go 24 rounds with Clinton Woods to win the IBF title – the same Woods who Jones almost effortlessly dispatched in six one-sided rounds before he went up to heavy to beat John Ruiz.

Jones totally knackered himself coming back down to 12st 7lb after beating Ruiz and he's finished. He's what, 35-36 too and is done. I couldn't believe how bad his legs and reflexes were against Johnson. Those two knockouts won't have done him any favours will they? And by the time he fights Woods he'll have been out of the ring for the best part of a year.

It all points towards a shot Jones getting a pasting from guys who wouldn't have stood a chance

On the evidence of his fight with Johnson, Jones either has no business fighting at 175, or he is completely shot. He looked gunshy against Johnson, and hardly threw a meaningful shot, I don't think he's won more than a round against Johnson.

Nice earner for Clinton and on the evidence of his last fight, he'll either stop or beat Jones hands down. Roy should get out of boxing.

That's the really worrying part of it, not only is the chin suspect now but if he's not even beating guys up until the point he gets knocked out then he really must be through.

by watching both Glen Johnson-Woods fights, I knew Johnson would beat Roy Jones. I also was on here telling you guys that Woods could take Hoye out. but I see this as a close match-up. Clinton is still a counter-puncher. I don't think he has that 1 punch in him like Tarver drilled Jones with. sadly, Roy could actually win this fight. Clinton would need to be very agressive and throw caution to the wind, especially if Roy stops using movement.

I agree, after watching the first fight surely a 50% roy beats a 100% clinton. Hoye was rubbish, always was, people who picked hoye vs woods seriously hadnt seen him fight before. Props for woods taking him to school tho.

I don't see what Jones has left. Johnson absolutely hammered on him for 9 rounds!

If Woods comes out with a fast pace and is aggressive throughout I think he'll win. If he stands off and lets Jones get into a rhythm he runs a risk of losing. That's if Jones can get anything going in the fight which has to be doubtful after his poor showing last time out.

I think Woods will beat him on points or stop him in the middle rounds if he's aggressive.

Jones is beyond done in my eyes.

Woods may be a counter-puncher by nature, but Jones is even more so, in some ways. Except, judging by Roy's more recent performances, he no longer has the punch. Or the reflexes.

I think we all agree that Clinton doesn't have the same one punch shot that Tarver showed. The point is, right now, he doesn't need it. Roy looked awful against Johnson: slow/shot/old/drained.... Call it what you want, he looked, basically, DONE.

Given that, and also given that, despite any other faults he may have at world level, Woods has a top-notch chin, I think Clinton could just ignore counter-punching, and just jump all over Jones, pretty much ignoring anything coming back. I'd back Clinton to walk through Roy now.

And if that isn't a sign that RJJ should quit, I don't know what is. I'm not disrespecting Woods, but Roy, only a few years ago, was nigh-on invincible. His best was as good as I've ever seen. But it's gone.

I like Woods, and, given that Tarver and Johnson are unavailable, I'd rather see him earning money and respect by fighting the likes of Tiozzo and Erdei (And I like his chances against both), rather than beating up the shadow of the man who, not long ago cast a shadow across the last 20 years of the division.

Woods may be a natural counterpuncher, but in his last fight with RJJ I seem to remember he tried to take the fight to Jones and back him up against the ropes. Can anyone else confirm that - I don't have the fight on tape so I'm just going from my own (none too reliable) memory.
